Movie Review : Blinded By The Light

Blinded By The Light
This film is the feel good film of the year! This is a fantastic indie film that has to be seen I know theirs a lot of blockbusters our right now but go and watch this film it’s honestly one of this years best films it is so well acted with a incredibly heartwarming premise that packs so much depth and emotion into it that you’ll be in love with the film by the end of it and wanting to see it again and again.

First off, This film hits a lot of deep emotional notes as this film is a very feel good film yes but it does touch upon very real topics such as equality and also standing up for what you want and not what others want but what you want and it’s very personal emotional things this film delves head first into and it’s amazingly shown through the film as it gives the film this emotional punch that just works so freaking well. It isn’t just a love note to the boss but it is about how music truly can transform and help any individual as this film touches upon that so perfectly and the impact music can have on someone’s life for such positive outcomes and it made me grinning throughout the whole film. So what is one of the most amazing parts of this is its ability to have something to say if it’s filled with romance or raw emotion or even friendship this film touches upon so many depths you don’t expect it to and it does it in such a natural and honest way it dose not come across as cheesy it is so well written and fleshed out.

Secondly, The film is exactly what we need right now it’s full of highs but has no problem showing the lows either and it’s such a great injection of unapologetic happiness of how music can move people and the cast is also terrific. Viveik Kalra gives a star making turn in this film giving a very Raw relatable and incredibly powerful performance that will move you and have you cheering for him all the way through. The supporting cast also all contribute greatly to the film as well their is not one bad performance in this film everyone commits to the frame 100% it’s incredibly well acted with very genuine performances that feel so real.

Lastly, Blinded By The Light is a film that shows the power of music and how it can touch your life and this film is a great example for it. The film packs amazing performances from its entire cast with a very powerful and positive message that is multi dimensional in its telling while also having you laughing, crying and just having a blast watching this film. Blinded By The Light is a film you’ll want to see over and over this is definitely one of the years best films and the feel good film of the year!

Rated PG - 13 : for thematic material and language including some ethnic slurs

This film is about a Pakistan family that moves to England and is treated unfairly due to their ethnic background and when a 16 year old kid puts in Bruce Springsteen it changes his world and the views he has on it finally feeling like his voice can be heard.

Viveik Kalra : Kalra gives a breakout performance that will make him a massive star from his great work in this film. He plays a misunderstood teenager that is aching to say something but doesn’t know if anyone cares to know it’s a very relatable feeling and he embodies it so well through the film. He has a very complex character arc and he was able to show each aspect of the character in a very compelling and emotional way that you couldn’t look away. He was able to say so much by saying so little through his psychical emotion and it’s amazing to watch as he can be very optimistic with his music and full of high energy and then he can be at very low points and it is powerfully shown sometimes without words and sometimes with he does such a great job at crafting a realistic portrait of what it’s like to be misunderstood and wanting to be heard that is the heart of his character and he shows it so loud and clear in this film. He is constantly at conflict with his family but when it’s him and the music he feels like he’s heard and Kalra brings such passion to this character you care for him the moment you see him. He has such a amazing range as an actor that impressed me as when he speaks this dialogue he brings such energy to it that feels so real and that’s the perfect way to describe his performance that it is a emotionally real showing of being 16. What he brings here is nothing short of extraordinary and this film is going to hopefully get him so many more roles as he shows here in amazing fashion that he can lead a film bringing all that’s needed to give a incredible performance as he’s so layered with his character and performance you can’t help but love what he’s bringing to the screen. It’s relatable it’s raw it’s emotional it’s a amazing piece of acting that deserves to get noticed Kalra gives a terrific performance in this film.

Gurinder Chadha : Chadha gives an amazingly well crafted piece of direction! She is a filmmaker I’m unfamiliar with but after seeing what she brought to this film I’ll definitely check out her other films as she gives a damn good directed film here that is so complex in its execution. This film is based on a true story but it’s not a bio pic but it’s also not made up either and she’s Able to tell this true story in a very realistic and entertaining way that brings very real elements to the film but also very fun also. She was able to have a great balancing act of showing the very emotionally heavy handed moments that had to be shown and were done marvellously but she knew when to take a break and show the happiness and joy of it as well she had a great even balance of knowing when to switch up tones. She also makes this film a fantastic love letter to one of the most successful singers of all time in such a heartfelt way as she brings a great well rounded cast in the film that all contribute amazing work to the film but also the film goes beyond just the acting it’s able to have you learn something or see something from another perspective which I love she makes you think and walk away with something that can start a conversation as she does touch upon political subjects in the film but not in a way that hits you over the head it’s strong enough to notice but not to subtle you don’t notice and I love her approach to this story. It was such a breath of fresh air that is so different and happy and she just knocked it out of the park she did an amazing job at bringing this amazing story to life.
