Movie Review : Avengers Infinity War
Avengers Infinity War
This film is one of the greatest cinematic experiences I’ve ever had! We have been working up to this for 10 years and it has been worth the wait as Marvel excels a film on the grounds I would call a masterpiece and one of the best films of the year even to say one of the best I’ve ever seen period. This film is gut punching, emotional, funny and a damn great film.
First off, The performances in this film are amazing across the board just from the cast alone leaves your jaw dropped from the multiple crossovers you see of characters onscreen along with their compelling performances as well. I don’t want to say one did better then the other they all were spectacular but their were a few performances that left me in tears and moved from Downey Jr, Elizabeth Olson, Zoe Saldana and a terrifying and menacingly brilliant performance by Josh Brolin as Thanos. All of who blew me away with their work in the film giving top level acting that is truly terrific.
Secondly, The tones used and how they mashed the characters was outstanding. This film has a damn large cast and they were able to balance enough time to give each character its amount of screen time without it feeling to I've much or to less they balance that greatly. Then for the Tone it was so much more bleak looking which I expected going in but it really is dark and it works exceptionally well due to the plot at hand and it’s use of emotional moments threw me totally from left field as I didn’t expect such emotional moments in this film and it has its share and it’s truly well handled and will leave you moved and even in tears it did for me. So it’s ability to balance the cast giving equal amounts of screen time was great and it’s overall tone of the film was great with its mix of emotional moments that just worked masterfully.
Lastly, I want to say the Russo’s have delivered a film we have waited 10 years for and they didn’t just deliver they gave us a masterpiece of a film that blew me away and I give them huge props the amount of expectations put on them was massive and they knocked it out of the park with this film delivering a truly phenomenal film that gave us what we wanted they made us laugh they made us cry and grip our seats. Avengers Infinity War is a intense experience best seen on the biggest screen possible in IMAX with a full audience this film is one of the best films of all time and one of marvels greatest achievements if not its greatest.
Rated PG - 13 : for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, language and some crude references
When doctor strange sees a problem that no one could of predicted he assembles earthed mightiest hero’s and every corner from every place of the galaxy to take on the mad titan Thanos but who will prevail?
Josh Brolin : Brolin gives one of the best motion capture performances ever captured onscreen! Brolin gives career best acting in this film as the mad titian Thanos. Brolin brings his A game and delivers one of the best and most incredible villainous performances I’ve ever seen and I’ll tell you why. He’s been playing this character since 2014’s Guardians of the galaxy but only in small glances in this film we see him up front in all of his madness. The way Brolin was able to showcase this character onscreen was truly amazing he played him as a man who thinks he’s trying to do the right thing and we know it’s wrong but his character thinks it’s right as well as his ability to not just showing him as this over maddening bigger then life villain but truly bringing depth to him. I would say he has the most screen time then anyone else in the film and throughout the film we see how he was in flashbacks and in the present and Brolin really showed more vulnerable moments of Thanos as well to the point where theirs tears and his ability to just engage you with the power of his voice and pure emotion was captivating. He gives to me one of his best performances here truly I mean it. He has so many layers shown from anger to regret to sadness and he express that range so beautifully onscreen truly bringing this villainous character to life through an outstanding motion capture performance that is truly mesmerizing.
Elizabeth Olson : Olson gives her best outing as Scarlett Witch in this film! Olson has been playing this character since 2015’s Age of ultron and I never thought she would be a standout in the film but she really impressed me here. In the film she is one of the most important key players that has next to Thanos the most screen time and in the film she throws herself into this performance head first and delivers a emotional gut wrenching performance. She’s developed and changed since the events of Civil War and since blossomed her relationship with vision and since she cares for vision she realizes she has more to loose and she isn’t a emotionally open person usually but she is so raw here and it’s amazing. And has moments of sheer heartbreak in the film that will have you in tears from the look in her eyes to the delivery of the dialogue it all seems so genuine and she truly got me wrapped up in her performance and her character due to her great strong work here. I’ve never seen her character and performance wise give so many sides to her character in this film then what we’ve seen in previous films. She brings something different here that is unlike her other performances she steps her game up hugely and you really can see I hope she gets noticed for her great work here as she truly is fantastic in it and gives her best outing as Scarlett Witch and one of her best performances in general. Overall Olson knocks it out of the park with her layered and emotionally captivating performance as Scarlett Witch
Robert Downey Jr : Downey delivers an emotional and strong outing as Iron man in this film. Robert has constantly been raising the bar with his performance of Tony Stark and here he's again truly terrific. By this point he's lost everything and he's broken so what more can he loose well a lot actually and the end result you see with him breaks him in ways you never thought would and the way Robert delivers that onscreen was great. He has moments to show his usual funny quips and humour but for the most mark he stayed in a serious drive throughout the film showing incredibly emotional lengths that at times brought me to tears he just really goes the full mile and gives his all in this film showing a damaged and broken Tony. His eyes full of loss and sadness you can see it and it feels genuine he just really captivated me with his work here. He's been playing Tony for a long time but this outing as Tony is his best he raised the bar and dominates the screen with his incredible performance.
Chris Hemsworth : Chris Delivers one of his most emotional performances to date! Chris gives his best outing and most emotional outing of the God of thunder in this film. In this film by this point he's lost everything and he's incredibly shattered after what recently happened to him. So in the film here he's a changed man and really isn't that funny much but really driven by raw emotion and to see Chris deliver such lengths with this character is fantastic. Their are a few moments he shares onscreen that are very real moments and he plays them perfectly and they feel so genuine from the delivery of his lines to the look in his eyes it feels one hundred percent genuine and it's great. He's giving his all in this film their is just something different he's bringing to the screen that I haven't seen him explore since his work in Rush. He truly blew me away with his work here and has truly delivered his best performance as Thor and one of the best performances of the film as well a truly emotionally, real and brilliant performance by Chris.
Zoe Saldana : Zoe delivers one of her strongest performances yet with her work in this film. Zoe plays Gamora and for her I would say this is her strongest outing as the character as well. Her range with her character onscreen is brilliance at its finest and I truly mean that. In the film she is out through the ringer and comes out of the other end in ways we never thought would be the outcome but the way Zoe was able to showcase her character in this film was incredibly emotional and incredibly heartbreaking. As we know her father is Thanos so their are scenes with those two and the amount of sadness that goes through her soul and see through her eyes is hard to watch but Zoe brought such a raw real genuine feel to her performance that is unlike anything she's given prior. She has such depth and layers shown here that hasn't been present in previous films where she's played this character and she just brought something different and really pushed herself emotionally and went places that we haven't seen and her performance really stood out to me. Overall Zoe delivers an incredibly strong performance that will leave you in tears.
Joe & Anthony Russo : The Russo brothers have done a masterful job at helming this film. They have directed two marvel films already and their directing part two of infinity war for a good reason they know how to do Marvel films right. In this film what they brought that's new to the table in terms of directing was their ability to be able to explore a different tone then we're used to seeing for one. In this film the tone is very grim and very dark and they went that route befuddle it's appropriate for the story and where we're going with the characters it fit the mood of the film perfectly. As well the brought a lot more emotional depth to the film then I thought and it really worked in their favour. In general Marvel has emotional parts but the amount of emotional scenes in this film they were able to craft it in a way that hits you right in the heart and it hurts but is done so brilliantly by the Russo's. I also give them props by being able to balance one of if not the biggest cast ever brought together for a film and give them all equal screen time without one feeling less then the other. They gave us so much more substance with Thanos and his backstory which was fantastic they got great performances from their entire cast and delivered on every scale giving great moments of humour, sadness and all balancing out perfectly due to the genius direction given by the Russo's.
The Score : Alan Silvestri delivers another haunting and beautiful scored once again. As the composer who did the music for Avengers back in 2012 it only felt right to bring him back for the latest one. In this one due to the dark tone and the emotional aspect of it he really used those two key elements as the driving force for the music. In the film their are sounds that are loud and thrilling then he'll take it down a bit and have the music just stretch with these beautiful chords of sound brought to the screen that fit the scene so perfectly. Overall Alan has crafted once again another truly beautiful score piece.
