Movie Review : The Professor

The Professor
This is a emotionally thought provoking film about life and it’s acted splendidly by Johnny Depp. This is a truly enjoyable film that isn’t your average drama it packs a lot of weight and has a lot of things to say that will have you thinking about after watching it and also leaving you profoundly affected by the film you just watched. It has been bashed by critics with a 0 on rotten tomatoes but the audience score is an 80% And this is another time I disagree with the critics as this film isn’t terrible by any means it is a very emotionally impactful film that is carried terrifically by its lead actor. It isn’t a film that sadly will he talked about a lot since it’s a small drama film which usually gets overlooked but it is worth seeing as the message is very heavy handed and has something to say and also has a terrific lead performance by Johnny Depp at the centre of it.

First off, Johnny Depp dominates this film with an emotionally deep charismatic performance. Depp gives one of his most emotionally raw and vulnerable performances and it’s a sight to behold. As he brings multi layers to the performance at hand as it is very drama heavy handed in his role onscreen but is also able to bring surprising amounts of genuine comedic wit to it that doesn’t feel like it’s straight forward comedy but does it in a way that feels mixed in with the dramatic Element and it pops off screen so greatly. Depp really pulls off one of his finest performances period and knocks it out of the park really delivering a truly outstanding performance that is truly spectacular. The supporting cast also is able to contribute greatly to the film especially Danny Huston who gives a great performance as Depp’s friend in the film everyone involved really does a great job across the board but Depp is on a whole other level giving a top notch performance that brings  the film to higher ground due to his great work.

Secondly, This film delves Into very deep tones that are executed greatly by its director and it deals with themes of morality, being in the moment and spontaneity. All three themes are touched upon heavily in the film and are greatly brought to the screen as it’s dialogue on the subjects talked about are talked in such a beautifully honest way that it makes you think and really take things into perspective and I love when a film can make you think and really take something away from it and this film does that fantastically. As it’s ability to show great depth to the film’s subject and truly have something to say with its subject matter speaks volumes and it truly is touching and got me emotional by the end of it as it does a marvellous job at really presenting to you to enjoy every moment you have and the film teaches it in a way that’s well done and not hitting you over the head with it but it’s perfectly woven into the narrative but enough that you notice it. So the three key themes were amazingly well handled at giving the audience something to walk away with and think about.

Lastly, The Professor is Helmed by Johnny Depp’s amazing central performance that is a true treat to enjoy adding amazing emotional realistic depth to it that comes across amazingly genuine and realistic also surrounded with fantastic work from the whole cast as well and it’s not another drama but really stands out as it has something to say and says it so well and that’s what makes the Professor such a profound piece of film and a film i would definitely recommend people go check out.

Rated R : strong language throughout, sexual content

When a Professor named Richard is diagnosed with Cancer he does whatever he wants before he checks out

Johnny Depp : Depp is a powerhouse in the film! Depp has been through a shit storm within the last year and I have felt so much for him as he is such a great guy and deserves so much better and it was a pure delight to see him onscreen. That being said his work here is anything short of brilliant he captures the stages of how someone would be after being told they have the diagnosis. As he goes through stages of denial, outrage and also acceptance by the end and he is able to wove through so many character and emotional themes through it so well. Depp brings an emotional honesty that is both humorous but also heartbreakingly well acted onscreen. He is able to show a very real and genuine place of himself onscreen that seems so authenticity real as Depp goes places emotionally where he strips himself down emotionally to the core as he’s able to say very hard hitting dialogue with dry wit but also be able to have be impactful as at times in the film he speaks very hard hitting things in a funny sense but you can see the hardness in his eyes and the pain and it’s perfectly done by the sheer talent that is Johnny Depp’s performance. He also as I mentioned is humorous in the film but also is able to meld it with the drama so both themes become one and it’s greatly balanced as Depp shows with great strength when to release a witty comment and when to hold back for a more smaller serious emotional moment and let it play out naturally. As their are a great deal of scenes in the film that will make you sob as he can hit like a  emotional punch to the chest and then he also comedically affective as well he walks such a fine line between the both while capturing a very emotionally real and realistic performance at the centre of it and Depp really grabs the screen and steals every frame of the film with his outstanding work here giving one of his best performances ever.

Wayne Roberts : Wayne proves his great directing style In this film. Wayne Roberts is a filmmaker I am unfamiliar with but after seeing what he did with this film I will definitely keep an eye out on his next projects as he does a tremendous job at directing this film and really showing great strength. He is able to get a mesmerizing performance from his lead star and also great supporting performances that also add great momentum to the film but also bring amazing depth and layers to the film that makes this set itself apart from other dramas. By being able to show such a grounded and realistic scope of how someone would react with the diagnosis and the stages they would go through and it’s down so well and presented so well onscreen as he layers it with emotional honesty that is perfectly executed while also dealing with very heavy handed topics that are done tastefully and respectfully well handled. By making it more grounded it had this very real sense to the film and he captures great performances and a film that has humour emotion and a whole lotta heart and overall greatly directed film by Wayne
