Movie Review : Don't Worry He Won't Get Far On Foot

Don't Worry He won’t Get Far On Foot
This film is a emotionally gut wrenching story of how one wrong moment or choice  can effect your future in a huge way. The performance shown by Jonah Hill is dazzling and so is the rest of the cast all giving tremendous work onscreen. I’ve been interested in this film for a while mainly due to the fact of the stars attached to the film but mostly the director Gus Van Sant who’s given us Good Will Hunting which I loved I was intrigued. Now is it as good as Good Will Hunting no but it is a dam good film with really strong performances and an emotional depth to it that will amaze you.

This film deals with the themes of Alcohol abuse, loneliness and the difficulties of being handicapped, now these are themes that are brilliantly done by Gus in a very honest and real way that truly is astonishing. I admired that he really shines a light on them and shows the struggles with it and tells it for what it is.

If your looking for a solid drama film this is for you if you want a film that has really strong performances this is for you. It was a emotionally honest and real film that showcases all actors giving amazing work and fantastic direction by Gus delivering a knockout film an overall fantastic film I definitely recommend people check out.

This film centres on a man who one night gets into a car with a man who’s intoxicated and results in a car accident causing him to be paralyzed and bound to a wheelchair. He learns he must find a way to live with it and seeks out therapy and find a way to be happy with himself

Rated R : for language throughout, sexual content, some nudity and alcohol abuse

Joaquin Phoenix : Phoenix delivers a emotionally driven performance. This man has given us amazing work over the years from Gladiator, Walk The Line and more recently you were never really here. And once again gives another dominating performance that is heartbreaking. He plays a alcoholic who was paralyzed from a car accident and has to battle his personal demons. And the way he executes it onscreen was amazing. He was able to showcase such depth and emotion really making you feel the words he spoke and saw the truth in his eyes. He just really got into the skin of this guy and when he struggles you feel for him when he’s trying to be positive you cheer him on. He just really adapts into this role giving his all even changing his appearance and fully disappearing into the role. When he spoke it felt so real and it feels as if he means it and when he cry’s it feels genuine he’s just mesmerizing in this movie. Joaquin delivers once again another incredible performance once again.

Jonah Hill : Hill delivers a tremendous supporting performance! Jonah is a sheer force to be reckoned with in this film bringing such a powerful emotional performance to the full front. He plays a support counsellor who also battled his own demons as well and really shines in the role onscreen. When Jonah talks he delivers his dialogue in a way that sparkles and comes off as truly genuine and it’s astonishing to watch. He’s a supporting player in the film and isn’t onscreen for as much as I thought but damn he’s great for the scenes he has in the film and nearly steals every scene. Theirs a scene near the end where he breaks down and cries and you feel for him and he breaks a bit and Jonah just really opens up and is emotionally raw. He just showcases amazing emotional depth and layers in the film. He gives so much advice but can’t follow his own and Jonah really showcases that and gives a outstanding performance onscreen that is one of his strongest to date.

Gus Van Sant  : Gus gives one again another emotionally well executed film! He has given us tears in Good Will Hunting and has inspired us with Milk and now he gives us a lesson on how to try to find the positives things in life even when your situation isn’t the best. His approach to the themes discussed in the film such as Alcohol abuse is very well touched upon he doesn’t sugar coat the dark or serious themes he shows and tells it for what it is and really is honest upfront about it. As well he brings fantastic amounts of emotion in the film that never feels forced or over the top but really makes you feel for these characters. On top of the great performances he gets from his cast Gus shows how capable he is behind the camera. He also shows every angle of each character never letting them fall into the background and always revisiting them as well he brings tremendous talent to this film and really brings his unique style to the film that worked so greatly together giving a greatly directed film from Gus. He shows the struggles of people who are paralyzed and or handicapped  and it’s very raw and real and I admire him for doing that he gives once again another well directed film.
