Movie Review : Sherlock Gnomes

Sherlock Gnomes
Who asked for this! This sequel came out 7 years since the first one and I don’t want to sound harsh but who honestly wanted a sequel to Gnomeo and Juliet? This film is a train wreck the only thing that is enjoyable is Depp’s take on Sherlock Holmes which is quite fun to watch besides that the film is horrendous.

First off the film suffers from pacing and the setup. The film has not any real substance for a plot line that is solid to get the audience engaged in the film. And they don’t get you to care about any of the characters they just do random things to make you laugh and go onto the next scene it was very hard to sit through this film. The film is around a hour and twenty six minutes and it felt like a long hour and twenty six minutes let me tell you. If they tried ok I’d give them that but their was no investment in the film or any amount of heart put into it so it felt just boring and really drags out.

Secondly, the film has cringe worthy scenes that are so awkward. The humour in the film either is really cheap or they go for the adult joke where it goes the extreme and sure parents will get it but it comes across as inappropriate for a kid film. Seeing a Gnome in a thong dancing is something I didn’t want to see but here I am. The humour just came out as forced and really awkward as it didn’t land and tried way to hard to make you laugh. Forced humour never works and that’s what they did.

Lastly, Their is no investment whatsoever in the characters the first film was fun sure but they took so long to make this sequel that you just didn’t care for their motives or them as a whole and their was no character arc or base throughout the film so they all came across as shallow characters who you’ll forget the moment it’s over. Overall this film is one of the worst sequels I’ve seen as well as one of the most forgettable films of the year or I’ve seen period sorry Sherlock I don’t even think you can solve the reason why this film sucks.

Rated PG : for some rude humour and suggestive material

Johnny Depp : Depp gives a fun performance here! Johnny plays Sherlock Gnomes and really has a fun take on the character bringing great wit and humour to his performance. He is the only spark in the film that is enjoyable and he really tries the best with what he’s given here and it shows. He plays Sherlock as a very by the book guy and has great moments of laughter and dose it so well. His ability to deliver comedy was fantastic because he doesn’t always try and make you laugh he delivers it in the right places and has great comedic timing. He brought a fun spin to it and gave good work in a weak film and he is for sure the highlight of the film. Overall a fun performance by Depp.

John Stevenson : John wow you have fallen far! This man brought us the great Kung Fu Panda and somehow has given us Sherlock Gnomes what happened? First off i have to say I am so disappointed in John from his lack of care of the characters, the fun of the film and the plot but most importantly the audience. He did not show up to the plate to really deliver a good film but just gave a mediocre film which you’ll forget the next day. It felt as if he didn’t even try he gave a confusing plot that was boring along with awkward humour and cringe worthy moments. He just missed the target completely I hope he can improve as this really hurts his image as a director. He didn’t bring the heart but rather went for the cheap laughs that just left the audience feeling unsatisfied and that’s how I also feel about his direction unsatisfied and disappointed.

  1. Things have changed for Gnomeo (voiced by James McAvoy) and Juliette (Emily Blunt) and the rest of their garden gnome friends and family since they have moved to London. The garden in their new home is a fixer upper, something Juliette throws herself into changing, much to Gnome’s dismay.yidio And zmovies
