Movie Review : DeadPool 2

Deadpool 2
This film is a freaking blast! Deadpool is back baby and doubled up on the action and comedy but in a way that never felt overdone and also had a surprising degree of emotional depth strung out through the film.

This film had a huge degree of expectations to live up to. The first film was such a massive hit as well as critical that even if they made a sequel how would they top the first one and I’ll tell you they came pretty damn close. For a sequel they deliver a truly great follow up with a great well rounded plot with new characters and fantastic chemistry from Brolin and Reynolds it just worked so well.

Secondly, the amount of emotion woven into this film was shocking. See the first film had hints of drama and then bounced off the humour in this film it dose that but it dose have a different tone going for it. It still is the Deadpool we loved from the first film but in this one I will have to say he is way more layered and has a lot more moments of genuine heartbreaking and emotion filled scenes that actually got me teary eyed. That’s what I also loved about this film that the first lacked which was the amount of emotional depth yes it packs the humour but it knew when to stop and take a breather and let the emotional scenes play out without having to downplay it with a joke which I think worked incredibly well.

Ryan Reynolds and everyone involved deliver their absolute best delivering a film full of laughs, action and hard hitting emotional moments that overall gives you a fantastic sequel and an enjoyable time watching the Merc with a mouth Deadpool 2 is a damn enjoyable film.

Rated R : for strong violence and language throughout, sexual references and brief drug material

When a man from the future comes back in time to kill some kid who could rattle future events Wade Wilson feels a obligation to protect him at all coasts

Ryan Reynolds : Reynolds delivers once again another spectacular performance as Wade Wilson. In this film he brings layers to Wade/ Deadpool that he didn’t explore in the first film and really shows a lot more depth with his character which I throughly enjoyed. Sure he gives us the quick and witty humour that we got from him in the first film. But what he showed here was a different side to him that I didn’t expect Ryan to do. What I loved and respect was his ability to know when to give the laughs at the right time without it feeling misplaced or just not needed but he knew the right time and place to make a joke and his timing was perfect resulting in great laughs. Then he also knew when to let the character take a break from the constant humour and let the more serious moments play onscreen without it always having to be serious and it worked tremendously. The more emotional scenes with Wade was so well executed by Ryan you really felt for him and could feel and see that it was genuine he just soaked it up and really wrapped himself up in the scene giving his all he could break your heart with just a look or delivery of dialogue then the next just burst you into laughter. He did a excellent job with his performance here and really showcases a great range here that he didn’t show in the first film. He has great fun with the character onscreen and delivers a entertaining fun and emotional performance that will leave you entertained and smiling.

Josh Brolin : Brolin is back at the villainous role with his role as Cable. Brolin is having quite the year with Infinity War last month and now this film. He delivers another a astonishing performance in this film as the antagonist of the film. He isn’t just some big baddie who wants to take over the world but has a justifiable reason for doing what he’s doing and that’s what I liked about his character and his performance was his ability to play this character with such layers instead of doing a one note performance which he easily could of done. But he brought great lengths of depth to his character and surprising amounts of humour as well. Brolin delivers on all fronts as this character giving a captivating performance as well as capturing great onscreen chemistry with Reynolds in the film. What I love about Brolin is no matter the film he always brings his one hundred and ten percent commitment to the role he’s taking on and it shows greatly here. In the film he really gets you invested in his character and he shows great emotional range as well throughout the film becoming one of the best parts of the film. Overall Brolin delivers another astonishing performance that is just menacing, layered and electrifying to watch.

David Leitch : David I give huge props for taking on this film! This character is so loved by so many and the first film being a smash for a new director to come in and have such pressure to make it good for the fans  and make it as good as the first one was huge expectations for him to live up to and I think he did a damn good job. For sure the style he brought on it is different then what Tim Miller brought to the first film and what David brought was something new and different and I love that. He explored more of the human and emotional aspect of Wade that we didn’t get that much of in the first but was mostly humour and not a lot of serious moments which for sure are injected in this film but also delivering on the humour that everyone expects while giving a solid story with new characters and a all around good sequel. David had a lot to juggle and he made it work with his great spin on it and creating great action sequences and fantastic chemistry from the cast as well as great performances. He really put his heart into this film and it shows greatly onscreen and I think he did a terrific job at not letting the serious moments get underplayed by humour which happens a lot in films and he did the film justice I hope if their is a third one he helms it as he shows here that is is capable of doing a great job with this character. Overall great direction by David.

The Soundtrack: The music in this film is amazing! All the music is from the 80’s and 90’s and they are brought to the film in the perfect moments of the film. But the song that stands out was Ashes a new song for the film and it really describes the tone of the film and just is a terrific song that matches what the film went for. Definitely a soundtrack worth checking out.
