Movie Review : The Post

The Post
This film is another knockout from Spielberg! The post is entertaining from beginning to end with it’s great premise and tremendous performances from the cast Tom and Meryl giving solid work that truly shines greatly throughout this film.

Spielberg was able to take a story that could of easily of been a stage play but was able to make it intriguing with it’s great performances and great direction on his part. He never misses a beat delivering once again another solid film with a great message to walk away with and a great time at the movies. All and all The Post is pure enjoyment that’s worth seeing.

Rated PG - 13 : for language and brief war violence

The film is about the Washington post having their hands on the White House top secret documents  and decides if to publish and tell the truth but by doing that they may break the law so they need to make choices that could change the country

Tom Hanks : Tom gives a solid performance that is just dazzling! Hanks always delivers with performances that range decades from saving private Ryan, Philadelphia and the very underrated performance from Captain Phillips. He can now add this performance to his list of other great caliber work because he’s absolutely fabulous in this picture. Tom plays Ben Bradlee a worker at the Washington post and he really brings the person to life with his incredible charisma and energy brought to the screen. He walks differently and even looks so much like the person in the way he moves looks and talks fully embodying Ben to one hundred percent. He shows great lengths of emotion as well he shows moments of triumph and joy but also shows his side of sorrow and anger and the way he was able to express his emotion across the screen like a brush to a canvas was so entertaining to witness. He never phones in a performance that’s what I love about Hanks and he always gives his upmost all to every role and this role here is probably one of my favourites of his. He’s just so damn good throughout the film and steals every scene he’s in and when him and Meryl share the screen together it’s cinematic gold the chemistry is just so natural between them it was electric to watch. Overall Hanks delivers a performance that is one of his best I’ve ever seen giving a performance of emotion and just delivers an outstanding performance that shouldn’t be overlooked come award season he’s terrific.

Meryl Streep : Streep is a force to reckon with in this film! Meryl to me is the best actress period and she shines again beautifully in this film. Streep could of easily of given a by the numbers performance but what I love about her is she never dose she always brings something new to each role she gets and she dose so here greatly. She plays the head of the Washington post and breaths such life into her role with great emotion and depth to it. Their are scenes where she just can give a grin and let the dialogue roll off her tongue but she delivers it in a way that’s so smooth and only so few can do that’s both charming but also feels genuine and Meryl has that gift. As well their are other scenes where no dialogue is exchanged and she is just standing and full of emotion and you feel for her and she also has other great scenes where tears fill her eyes and she has a crack in her voice and doesn’t know what to do and you can see in the eyes and voice it’s real she’s so raw and real onscreen in this film. Giving such a powerful and entertaining performance that is just terrific. She can give great serious moments but also sly sarcastic wit rolled into one and it explodes greatly onscreen. Overall Meryl brings this role to life with great emotion and captivates the Audience once again with another fantastic performance.

Steven Spielberg: Steven delivers another well directed film in brilliant fashion.  Spielberg is a mater of cinema and always will and this film reminds why he is. Steven crafted a very interesting plot and just injected such intrigue and life into the subject matter putting together a fantastic cast wrapped with amazing performances. His style in this film was what I really liked he had great lengths of drama but had great dry humour in the film and the tones never felt out of balance but perfectly done. As well he gives each actor time to shine no actor is overshadowing or getting more screen time then the other which I loved. He really made you feel as you were back in the 70’s with to the detail set design that was great Steven just knows how to craft a time period film and give it that style he has to really make it shine and stand out. Which he dose so incredibly well he has great performances a well rounded story and his style thrown in the mix made for a solid film by a great filmmaker only Steven could of done. Overall he dose another great job at directing with this fantastic political drama helmed very well by the always talented Spielberg.

The Score : The music in this is amazing done by the master of composed music John Williams. Williams is my favourite composer and whenever I hear his music I know it’s him because he has a very specific sound and he brought it here and it jells with the subject matter perfectly. The use of soft melodies and just starching it to really make the audience to feel the moment and the emotion by the great length of music shown onscreen was brilliantly done. John knows how to construct a score and dose so beautifully here with another well done composed score that will have you loving every moment  Well done Williams.
