Movie Review : CHIPS

CHIPS
This film is a film that had the potential to be great but was ultimately ok. The film is receiving harsh reviews as the worst film ever I don't think it's that bad but it definitely has its major flaws. The only reason I say this film is ok is due to the hilarious performance by Michael Pena he is the soul reason I would watch it because he's a fantastic actor and he really brings it comedically in the film. As the the film in a whole it was full of plot holes such as why is the Villain doing what he's doing what's the motive? Why is Dax Shepard's character always falling? And lastly why is their no dam plot? This film really has no plot just a bunch of booty jokes and action mixed with comedy to make this film their is no direct story to tie it all together which is why it's such a convoluted mess. This CHIP happened and not in a good way.

This film is about a FBI agent who gets assigned to a case in California with a washed up biker who turns to being a cop and they go on this big grand adventure together

Rated R : crude sexual content, graphic nudity, persuasive language some violence and drug use

Michael Pena : Michael Pena is the best part of this film and he truly tried his best with the lackluster script he was given. Pena is a fine actor appearing in films such as Crash and the Lincoln Lawyer both I enjoyed just to name a few so I know he has a fantastic acting range and he can do comedy due to his great work in Tower Hesit. So for the comedic range he totally has got it that's the only reason I was looking forward to seeing this film because I knew Pena would be outstanding in this film and he really was. Even though the script was heavily flawed he worked with what he had and at times had me really laughing his comedic timing was great. He just was really entertaining to watch and his chemistry with Dax Shepard was good to watch as well but overall Pena made this film the only good thing about It and delivers on all levels another fantastic and hilarious performance.

Dax Shepherd : Dax Shepard wrote directed and started in this film as for the performance side he was fine to me he was pretty much the same in which I've seen him in the past. Such as his work as When In Rome, Hit and Run and the judge to name a few. But yea for his performance I felt it was the same as we have seen in the past and in this film he also tries to bring some emotional depth to his character which didn't work for me I just thought he tried to hard to be serious when it didn't land due to him always being the funny guy I couldn't get in that head space and really Invest into it. As well I thought when he's shooting thirty jokes every scene it became tiring to the point where I was not laughing he had his moments but that's about it. I don't want to come across that I dislike him I want to say he could of dome better then what he did in this film I like him as a actor I think he's hilarious but he could of tried harder for me to buy more into his performance and character overall I was let down by Dax Shepard's performance in this film.

Dax Shepard : Dax Dax Dax.. Why that's my question why did you direct this film. He directed Hit and Run as well so I can tell you from a direction standpoint he's terrible behind the lens. Not only is the film a convoluted mess thrown in with Booty jokes that aren't funny but just repetitive the film has no plot like how's that possible theirs no plot whatsoever. The film started off fine but then the introduction to the villain was poorly structured and I wanted to know what his motive is why is he doing this no they just threw action on the screen and left that side plot completely. Oh and I can't forget the failing marriage his character has but oh wait we are going to leave that a mystery to and then go back to the action and Booty jokes. Their was no accomplishment at showing a concrete plot whatsoever in this film and to be honest it made me really upset. The film did things just for the sake of doing them here's a action sequence makes no sense but hey it looks cool or hey look it's a guy who likes yoga pants oh that's hilarious not Really. Overall due to the terrible ability to show a plot anywhere in this film  the plot flawed mess that the film shows Dax Shepard is not gifted or suited to direct a film his skills as a director are flawed that's why this film fell apart so fast due to the terrible direction.

The Lighting : The tones of colours used was really yellow bright and it annoyed me at times of being to bright because then when the toned shifted or changed it remained the same. So their was no change in lighting to match the tone overall I disliked the lighting and colours ability to showcase this film

The Soundtrack : The music was ok it was your typical comedy soundtrack with pop songs mixed into the film to get the audience singing nothing special here.
