Movie Review : Beauty And The Beast

Beauty And The Beast
This film is a good movie with fantastic musical numbers and all around a good retelling of the classic cartoon that graced the screen so many years ago. This movie is good it isn't amazing I'll be honest with you guys. When I saw this film already their had been so much hype surrounding this film people hailing it as one of the years best and dazzling. Now after seeing it I can safely say yes I agree it's magical and good but it isn't the best live action Disney film that has come out. I still stand by that the live action Cinderella was my favourite live action Disney film. I don't want to  come across as this film is bad in any way I just want to say this film isn't the spectacular spectacle everyone is raving about it's a good movie and if you enjoy princess or Disney films this is up your alley.

This film is the retelling of the classic cartoon of Beauty and the beast presented in love action. Belle is a small town girl who's father goes missing and she stumbles upon a man who shakes her world and shows her it's what's on the inside that truly matters

Rated PG : frightening images, peril and some action violence

Emma Watson : Emma brings Belle to life in this retelling of this Disney classic! Emma has in recent years cemented herself as a solid actress and she's shaping to be a fantastic actress taking on some really different roles that showcase her range. In this film she brings a innocence to Belle that made you engaged with the character and her performance. As well she was able to sing her heart out and for an actress that I haven't heard sing in any film before she did it brilliantly in the film. They couldn't of cast Belle any more perfectly she looks like the cartoon version to she just fit the role so well. She brings this charm and likeness to the character as well as a emotional depth to that is terrific to watch. She can be really upbeat and positive and then just utterly heartbreaking and she walks that line so well.  Emma dose a fantastic job in this film and is another great performance to add to her filmography.

Bill Condon : Bill Condon did a poor job at a film that is good but could of been directed to be great! Bill Condon is a fantastic director don't get me wrong he has written great pieces of work such as the Oscar winning film Chicago. As a director I think he has issues at plot pacing and progression with the story he tells onscreen. He did twilight breaking dawn part one and two and I was let down massively by the ability to take the easy route. Since then Condon has left a sour taste in my mouth for his talent as a director. For this film he did a poor job at helming such a anticipated film. What I didn't like was when I was watching the film it felt like the characters especially the furniture and sets felt very fake I didn't have the sense that it felt or looked real which took me out of the film. As well this film is two hours and nine minutes the original film was an hour and twenty four minutes he could of trimmed the film to make it shorter at times I felt it dragged on. Those were my major issues I had with the film and personally I thought Chris Columbus should of helmed this film who directed the first two Harry Potter films and wrote the Goonies I think he would of been a proper fit. Sadly I have to say I was let down by Condon and I hope he can do better then what he did with the direction of this film he just really disappointed me.

The Lighting : It was good but I felt that it overdid it at times. The lighting had this old book feel to it which was fine but at times I felt as if it was to bright. Then it would go the complete opposite and go really dark as I'm watching a soap opera so their was never a proper balance for the lighting it was ok but could of been better.

The Score : This I loved! The score used and composed in the film was beautifully crafted and well done it engaged me in the film and really made me feel immersed in what I was seeing onscreen it was incredibly well done I loved every aspect of this outstanding score.
