Movie Review : Manchester By The Sea

Manchester By The Sea
This film is a emotional punch to the chest it's an incredible piece of film! This film is directed extraordinarily well by Kenneth Lonergan including outstanding performances from Michelle Williams, Lucas Hedges and Casey Affleck. This film hits you with a wave of emotion it's a marvellous drama that everyone should check out it's truly a magnificent film.

This film tells the story of a guy who's brother passed away and has to step up as his legal guardian but he doesn't know if he can do it because of  his emotional past that haunts him.

Rated R : for language throughout and some sexual content

Casey Affleck : Casey delivers a powerhouse performance that is the best of his career and one of the best lead performances I've seen ever. Casey is not new to the dramatic genre with his other work in the assassination of Jesse James which earned him Oscar recognition. So we know that Casey excels in the dramatic genre but what he did in this film was beyond good it was incredible. I have heard from many critics his performance is pure genius and after seeing it I have to say I agree. The work he dose in this film is tremendous he packs an emotional gun wrenching performance that will leave you in tears. His characters brother passed away and has to step up to take care of his brothers son and he doesn't think he can do it due to his damaged past. The way Affleck shows that onscreen is amazing. At times he doesn't even have to speak to deliver his emotion and yet you still feel and know what he's expressing without  needing to say anything in some scenes that's how spectacular his acting is in this film. He plays a broken man with a past that haunts him the way he delivered his lines and just the sheer pain you see in his eyes is heartbreaking. He just gets you wrapped up in every aspect of his performance. He is truly outstanding in this film delivering his one hundred percent all to this film. Overall Casey delivers a emotional punch performance that steals the show.

Lucas Hedges : what a outstanding breakout performance from Lucas Hedges! Lucas Hedges is an actor who I haven't heard or seen any of his work until seeing this and wow what a fantastic performance from such a young actor I can't wait to see what he dose next. Lucas has incredible range emotionally in this film theirs times when he's arguing with Affleck's character and it's funny at times but mostly serious driven and then he will go to tears and you are heartbroken and feel bad for him. He just made the emotion  feel so real and authentic onscreen it's wonderful what he dose in the film. He plays a fantastic supporting performance in the film when he's onscreen with Casey the chemistry is just their the banter back and forth was so entertaining to watch but they also were able to feed their emotional scenes off each other so well they work perfectly together in the film. Overall Lucas gives a tremendous performance that shouldn't go unnoticed.

Michelle Williams : Michelle delivers a heartbreaking performance that gave me chills! She isn't in the film as much as I thought she would be but for the screen time she was given she gives a captivating performance. Michelle has done such great work in films like my week with Marilyn and Blue Valentine. She has terrific acting talent whenever she's in a film and she dose it once again with her work in this film. Their is a scene in the film where she's in tears apologizing and the way she expressed her emotions was incredible. She was so in the moment in every scene when she's crying it feels as it's coming from a real core place emotionally. She's just so good in this film she not only is good she gives one of the best performances I've ever seen her give and she just is so emotionally raw in this film you can't look away. Overall Michelle delivers once again another Outstanding performance.

Kenneth Lonergan : Kenneth directs this emotional punch film to perfection. I have not seen any of his previous work he's directed but after seeing what he did with this film I'll definitely check them out because he dose a genius job with his direction on this film. He cast the perfect actors for the roles and also got great performances from the entire cast. But what I really liked is he made it feel so grounded and real the characters felt fleshed out and relatable and he just make it feel so rooted and real I loved the aspect of that. He just has this directing style he brings to screen that is so engaging to watch he takes such small screens and puts emotional depth to it and it's pure excellence. He did an extraordinary job with helming this film and cannot wait to see what he dose next overall Outstanding direction from Kenneth.

The Lighting : It was great tones that fit this dramatic film. It felt very grey and bright blue throughout the film and it just had this simple tone that worked for the emotional core aspect of the film and just fit the frame well overall great tones of colours great job guys.

The Cinematography : The camerawork had some spectacular shots in this film. Their is a scene of Casey in a police station and the way they shot the camera looking at him they just were able to Capture the sheer emotion he was showcasing onscreen by the way they angled the camera and I loved that great job guys.

The Score : Great composed music in this film. This film had the perfect sounds for this emotional dramatic film. The music matched the scene and tone well and just brought beautiful melodies to the film it was a fantastic score I loved it.
