Hobbs & Shaw 

This film is freaking delight! This film I have been looking forward to since it first got announced. I had avoided all promotional things for this film as I wanted to be surprised walking into it as I feel trailers give away too much especially for action films they always put the cool parts in the trailer so I wanted to be genuinely surprised and now the question is did I enjoy the film. Oh yes I did this film is an absolute blast to be had as I have mentioned before the Fast and Furious franchise has been getting better and they are very self aware that it is over the top action and have fun with it which is exactly what this film does once again and this time is helmed by the two best characters of the franchise. these two characters were first put onscreen together in Furious 7 but were the best part of Furious 8 and when I was hearing the two of them were going to get their very own film together I was so excited because the chemistry between them are amazing and here the banter and comedic timing is cranked up to ten thousand. The film is a pulse pounding action extraveganza from the first frame to the end. 

First off the film purely rides on the chemistry that is Jason Statman and Dwayne Johnson and they deliver as they bring they both bring the action star quality to the screen in great style and also can bring amazing comedic wit as well without it overdoing it and is incredibly even balanced. Jason and Dwayne are so much fun to watch onscreen their very easily becoming one of the most fun action duo’s to watch onscreen as they are both such charismatic actors with great talent bringing so much fun to the screen together is dynamite. The entire reason this film even works is these two actors chemistry they bring across the screen 

What another big reason this film works is the ability that is it very self aware of itself. As the film’s plot and action set pieces are over the top they are aware of this and know that it is ridiculous and they don’t take it too seriously they have fun with it and they make the audience know that instantly. As if this film took it way to seriously it wouldn’t be as fun but since they know it is cheesy they just try to pack together a fun film with ridiculous action and since they know what people have come to expect from these films they deliver on all fronts for the fans while also showing new things to this franchise that hasn’t yet been explored so you have great fan service and then you also get fantastic new things introduced to the franchise which is the best of both worlds really. 

Lastly Hobbs & Shaw is a fun popcorn flick you can sit back and enjoy with great explosive pulse pounding action hilarious comedic wit and also amazing chemistry within the cast all delivering a truly fun time to be had that doesn’t take itself to seriously Hobbs & Shaw is a enjoyable flick I recommend people go check out

This film revolves around Hobbs and Shaw forced to work together to get back this virus that could spread over the world and kick ass but if they can do it before beating each other up 

Dwayne Johnson : Dwayne Johnson delivers another action hero badass performance. Dwayne Johnson is probably the most successful action actor in Hollywood today and he is one of the actors regardless of the film you will watch him in anything he’s in because he is so likeable and charismatic. And here he brings again another layer of fun to the role of Hobbs which he first gave us back in fast five. He always has been my favourite character in the furious franchise next to Paul Walker’s character and so to hear that he got his own solo film with Jason was a delight as here we really got to see him dig deeper into the character as in furious 7 he was in it not that much and then in furious 8 we got a lot more of him and here we get an entire 2 hour film of him which was perfect. As Dwayne explores parts of the character that we haven’t seen before and I truly mean that as we also get to find out about his family this is probably the most backstory we get of Hobbs more then any previous times we have seen him. As he really peels back layers of this tough guy image and shows the human aspect of him and it is acted greatly by Dwayne showing the great range the action star can explore onscreen with great style. He has the big action star moments in the film of course and he delivers on all those fronts and then he can be also be very comedic but not become very jokey he knows when the perfect time is to say a joke he is great at comedic timing and then he also knows when to tone it down and have a great heart to heart emotional moment which he does explore more then ever here compared to the previous times and it is definitely Dwayne’s  most complex and layered performance as Hobbs we have seen and it is so much fun to watch all due to the great work The Rock brings to the screen. 

Jason Statman : Jason brings just like the Rock a great layered performance this time around. Jason is another massively popular action star that is fantastic as well with the transporter films and the crank series. When he first came to the franchise back in 2015’s Furious 7 he injected great life into the franchise with a great interesting bad guy that really brought a well needed breath of fresh air to the series. And here he brings the intense brutal action he always delivers in his films here but what I loved about his portrayal of the character in this film is very much like Dwayne we see the more human element to his character this time around. We see a lot of his more emotional aspects of the character as we once again see his mother in the film and we are also introduced to his sister so this menacing element he has to craft to around him is totally demolished as he yes is the tough guy he tries to be but he also sheds a lot of his more emotional moments of the character we have never seen before and I love that as Jason is a very versatile actor who has shown a lot of range before and here he shows it greatly again as he can bring the comedic wit that is perfectly timed and lands every time and explode the audience in great laughter but then also kick ass in brutal action and then have great emotional aspects to his performance that is amazingly shown onscreen and it is all due to Jason’s fantastic commitment to the character Jason once again gives another fun performance as Deckard Shaw. 

David Leitch : David has crafted a great fun time! It is no surprise that David can direct Action really well as he has proven that fact time and Time again with his work on the John Wick and Deadpool franchises. So hearing he would be putting his hands on this series I was excited to see how and what way stylistically he would bring the franchise into. What he does is crank the action up to ten thousand and really embrace the cheesy over the top tone and have as much fun as possible with it while also bringing some great layered moments of emotional heart you don’t expect but delivers amazingly well. David surrounds the film with a tremendous cast and over the top plot and just explodes fun popcorn fun onscreen as he really brings such fun as he gets electrifying chemistry from his two main leads resulting in amazing banter and comedic moments that don’t feel forced but are so natural and works so well. He keeps a very even keel of tones as he yes has over the top action but not to much and he knew when to switch things up tone wise. As it isn’t just a action film it is a action film with great heart that isn’t afraid to explore different layers and which it does greatly done by David’s fantastic direction he Brought to the film with his fantastic style.
