Movie Review : Mary Queen Of Scots

Mary Queen Of Scots
This film was a entertaining but flawed film saved by its tremendous performances from its leads giving outstanding work. This is about the Queen Of England and the Queen Of Scotland and the friction that went on from both sides it makes for a compelling story no doubt in its execution onscreen is a slow burn that at times can feel hollow in its delivery of its story at hand. The film is around two hours and four minutes which is not long considering most films are that length nowadays but since this film is a slow burn and slow build you can really feel the runtime and how long it is which you shouldn’t feel when viewing a film so this film suffers from pacing issues and at times its execution of its story.

Secondly, what I liked about the film was the performances that Is without a doubt the best aspect of this film. Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan both give cracklings performances that truly are captivating to watch unfold throughout this film. Both give very different kinds of performances but are equally as compelling onscreen to watch.

Lastly, This film was saved due to its great talent at the front of it and its compelling story even with it’s fair share of flaws this film is still highly entertaining to watch due to its strong performances and compelling story at hand.

Rated R : for some violence and sexuality

This film is based on a true story of the tensions that the Queen Of England and Scotland faced and their hardships

Saoirse Ronan : Roman gives a emotionally reserved  performance! Ronan has been giving great performances after another with just last year she amazed us with Lady Bird and now again gives once again another well done performance. She plays the Queen of Scotland and has so much  emotional weight thrust upon her through her reign as Queen and Ronan steps up to the challenge and dose the person justice in her performance as best as she could. She didn’t imitate her but tried to show her as she was showing her triumphs and her losses. She has a massive arc in this film she is someone entirely different by the end of the film then who she was at the beginning. At the beginning she is very strict and reserved but she has more joy and is more happy and then by the end is stuck with sadness and anger and the transition Ronan makes onscreen is fantastic. She embodies the role full on immersing herself in every moment of the film giving each scene emotional Weight with powerful delivery in such amazement. She just is mesmerizing in the film really bringing the person she’s portraying  to life with such charisma and incredibly amounts of emotion that drive her that come across as genuinely raw. She plays the role with great emotion and charisma you can’t take your eyes off of her Ronan again delivers another powerhouse performance that shouldn’t be ignored as she is truly incredible in this film.

Margot Robbie : Robbie delivers a fearless performance that will stun you! Robbie has done it again she crafts another masterful performance that is complex and intriguing. She plays the Queen Of England and isn’t in the film for as much as thought she definitely is a Supporting character in the film but for the moments she is onscreen she cuts through the scenes with a sharp edge. She doesn’t play the Queen as this over demanding or loud person but she rather plays her in a very quiet and reserved person who at the centre is heartbroken over the choices she has had to make. The sheer execution of her take on the Queen is truly astonishing as she packs so much emotion into this performance that crackles in amazement. She has moments of love and many moments of hardship and When Robbie speaks the words hit you like a wave of emotion. You can hear the sadness in her eyes and in her voice showing the emotional pain she’s going through. Robbie plays it with such grace and honesty she shows the highs and lows of this person showing so much layers of who this person was she totally disappears into the character fully immersing the character changing her psychical appearance the way she moved and talked she took this head on and paid off massively as she steals each scene she’s in with her incredible performance. She brings such a loneliness and emotional punch to the character I didn’t expect that worked so well In her performance Robbie is mesmerizing and a scene stealer as her turn as the Queen Of England.

Josie Rourke : Josie dose a great job with her work on this film. I’ve never heard of this filmmaker prior to seeing this film and after seeing this film I would definitely keep an eye out for her as she proves herself as a capable director with her take on this incredibly compelling true story. The film falters at times from its pacing but thanks to her tightly done direction she keeps you engaged to the end. She made the film like a chess match where we see both sides and what they both had to loose and then by the end they meet face to face and it comes to a head and I loved that. It resulted in amazingly well done tension building that had you invested on both sides and intrigued to see how things would end. She captures great performances from the entire cast especially its lead actors and really shows the highs and lows of both of these Queens by really showing a authentic period piece of a film filled with pure emotion, War and hardship. She really brings the story to life in its setting and her execution of the story showing all sides to it even the disturbing elements and leaves you entertained and amazed by her work on the film. Overall Josie’s style and the compelling story mesh so well together resulting in a greatly well rounded film.
