Movie Review : Halloween (2018)

Halloween (2018)
This film is the best horror film I’ve seen all year! This film is outstanding bringing Micheal Myers back to his roots and really is effective in its storytelling and scare factor. From start to finish this film captivates you, amazes and dazzles and I enjoyed every moment of it. David Gorden Green directs this film masterfully bringing scares that are well set up and not cheap jump scares but well thought out and well executed that genuinely makes it bone chilling at its scary moments . As well to add the performance showcased by Jamie Lee Curtis is truly astonishing to see as she really brings an emotional and gripping quality to her performance and character throughout the film.

First off, This film did incredible things that the Franchise needed which was by brining it back to its core roots and making It terrifying which the first film did so well and the sequels weren’t able to accomplish. This film brings back the basics and utilizes its setting by not trying to complicate things with unnecessary Side plots or overly sexualizing the characters and all the cheap Horror gimmicks that many modern horror films today do which this film avoids and really steers it into a path that is a simple premises but rooted with emotional themes while also staying scary and being effective onto of delivering a plot that gives a worthy sequel to its predecessor.

Secondly, This film had fantastic fan service to the fans of the franchise by giving little Easter eggs and nods to the first film without it riding on nostalgia by making constant callbacks to the first film but they do subtle nods that are fun to watch out for but also don’t feel over the top. The film really brings the franchise home by tying up all the loose ends and giving a well earned and deserved ending to the two part storyline which leaves you satisfied and smiling.

Overall, Halloween (2018) is the best horror film I have seen all year! It delivered on the scares that really were well set up and executed while also giving a satisfying sequel helmed marvellously by David Gorden Green and showcasing a career best performance by Jamie Lee Curtis Halloween (2018) is the best Halloween since the Original giving us a Halloween that truly satisfies what an outstanding film I highly recommend everyone go see this film.

Rated R : for horror violence and bloody images, language, brief drug use and nudity

This film centres on Halloween Night as Micheal Myers has been locked away for 40 years and Laurie Stroode has been preparing to kill him if he ever breaks out and one night while transferring hospitals he breaks out and goes on a killing spree but Will Laurie Take down Micheal making him pay for all the years of trauma and emotional scars that he has given her or will she fall at the knife of Micheal.

Jamie Lee Curtis : Curtis delivers an astonishing marvel of a performance! Jamie has played this character multiple times in the franchise and knows the character inside and out by this point and thats a reason she is so strong in the film is her ability to get in the skin and head space of Laurie and make it look so genuine. As we know Micheal caused so much pain on her that Halloween night as well as trauma and emotional scars that have really effected her. Jamie brings that to the full front of the screen showing the effect it had on her and damn is she so freaking good. Theirs one moment in specific where she sees the bus that has Micheal on it come out of the hospital and its just her in the car and her eyes show such vulnerability and breaks down into tears overwhelmed in emotion  and screams. She portrays  Laurie as a Trauma victim and it dose not feel stereotyped at all but how someone who’s been through a really traumatic event would evolve into the years after it happened. She is emotionally closed off and packs all this weight onto her that she feels is her responsibility and wants to protect her family for the possibility that Micheal may come back and wants to be ready if it arises. She knocks it out of the park by giving her best outing as Laurie giving her a truly unique character arc and emotional depth to her that is well shown by Jamie at the front of it all giving her absolute all to the character that launched her into superstardom. When she delivers her dialogue she brings such a real sound to it that feels so genuine wrapped around with really outstanding layers of emotion she showcases through the film. She could get you to see how she feels by a single word or even just a look in her eyes she is fantastic in this film giving not just her best outing as this character but one of the best performances she’s ever given onscreen Jamie Lee Curtis is incredible.

David Gorden Green : David gives masterful direction here! This man blew me away last year with his fantastic work on Stronger and again amazes me with his style on this iconic franchise. David brings such effective tones and great horror without relying on the common gimmicks and really makes it different and fresh. What I loved about where he steers the Halloween film was by discussing real world themes into it without feeling preachy. It is about Trauma and how someone deals with it and carries it with them the many years after and how it could effect the person. Laurie for example seeks closure and wants Micheal to find her as by confronting the person who caused the pain by ending him she will stop the Pain that has haunted her all those years and how David executes this is marvellous. He was able to tackle such deep themes while also giving effective scares and servicing the fans with great moments with Micheal and everything in between David was the perfect fit to close this story arc by delivering a fantastic sequel that the fans will love and also giving in general a great horror film with fantastic execution of its storytelling and scares. He never tries to bring it over the top but keep it simple and work within those limits to deliver a effective horror film with one of cinemas most iconic horror icons an he dose it greatly brining fantastic depth to it overall David Gorden Green gives incredible direction on this film.

The Score : John Carpenter gives a knockout score.  The man who crafted this series and gave us one of the most chilling and iconic composed scores returns to the series to give once again another tremendous score. He uses lots of low keys on the piano and crafts such chilling music that really gets into your bones and captures the environment and tone of the film greatly. John is a master of cinema and music and gives us another great score that will have you mesmerized by its score.
