Movie Review : The Commuter
The Commuter
This film was so freaking slow! The commuter is another run of the mill Liam Neeson action flick. I had no high expectation for this film it’s not that the film is terrible but it’s not exactly thrilling either it’s just mediocre. The film had no pulse to keep me intrigued or care about any of the key characters involved in the story.
The plot was so simple minded I saw the outcome of it before the film finished and because it’s to predictable and this style of storytelling has been done over and over again it’s essentially a who done it. Liam Neeson dose the best with what he’s given here but ultimately the Commuter derailed off course and just delivers this mild mannered film that you’ll see in the 5 dollar bin.
Rated PG - 13 : or some intense action/violence, and language
This film revolves around a man who takes the train every day but when he comes across a woman with a offer that could change his life he takes it but then he finds out quickly how fast this game of cat and mouse could play out and become dangerous to everyone on board
Liam Neeson : Neeson dose truly his hardest here! Neeson was once one of the biggest and most profitable stars in Hollywood with turns in films like Schindler’s List, Star Wars and the Taken franchise (before it got out of hand). Neeson now has resulted in doing this run of the mill action films that have a similar formula every time now and one thing I can say he dose well is his performance here. Sure it’s not award caliber but he always try’s to bring something new to his performance. You can really see him try his absolute hardest here with what he’s working with it’s not his fault the narrative is poorly written but you can definitely see him trying. In the film he plays a father going back and forth every day between trains until something unexpected happens and he’s put in the middle of a dangerous situation. Neeson was able to bring the fantastic charisma and charm as well as being able to show great lengths of emotion with his character as well. He just wraps himself up in each scene just giving his best and trying to save this film carrying this film on his shoulders with his performance. He gives a entertaining and well rounded performance here that could of easily of been a phoned in performance which he didn’t and I admire that and he actually shows great lengths of emotion and depth to the character. He dose get you to care for his character theirs a scene where he’s pointing a gun to someone after they threaten his family and the anger that washes over him was amazing to watch because he looses it and just is full of rage and the sheer emotion was fantastic to watch Neeson deliver. Overall Neeson delivers a good performance in s bad film.
Jaume Collet - Serra : I am so let down by Jaume here! This director I thought was fantastic at giving a very realistic and thrilling film with the shallows and thought that this film wouldn’t be amazing but ok from what I saw in the trailers. But wow he really just didn’t deliver here and it’s unfortunate but it’s true. The plot he has here was mediocre sure but the execution onscreen was terrible and Jaume didn’t do anything to fix it. Their was no sense of thrill or excitement and it just felt as he wasn’t even trying to tell a interesting story but instead just a By The numbers film. His style is very good but what he brought to the table on this film was disappointing not only did he not get me engaged in the story he had me care so little about the characters with little to non character development. For s film genre that has been done before he could of tried to bring something fresh to the table but failed at doing so making the direction feel lazy and just bad. I think he’s a fantastic director but what he did here was just a let down he could do so much better. He left me disappointed and let down as it felt he was just sleep walking through the film with his direction. Overall Jaume failed to deliver a solid film or even a entertaining one at that and much of that fault is to fall on the person who helms the film.
