Movie Review : Power Rangers
Power Rangers
This film is a fun popcorn action filled film you can sit back and enjoy! Me being one of the kids who grew up in the 90's who watched the tv series and has been a huge part of my childhood I can safely say this film did justice for me. The film really is a solid film with surprisingly solid performances from the cast I as well bought the cast as a team and the chemistry I bought into. The film as a whole is a origin story that is going to set up for future instalments and so for the majority of the film you see them not in their outfits but only towards the end. That was a little disappointing but hey that's really nitpicking overall I throughly enjoyed this film it did a impressive job at doing the serious tone well but as well mixing the fun aspect we have grown to love as well so I'm going to say Power Rangers is a fun movie everyone should check out.
The film is centred around these teenagers who are troubled but once they stumble upon these power stones they develop powers and become the power rangers
Rated PG - 13 : for sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, language, and for some crude humor
R.J. Cyler : R.J. Delivers a entertaining performance in this film! R.J. Impressed me not to long ago with his work in me earl and the dying girl and I was very impressed by his performance and range as an actor. So when I heard he was in this film I was excited to hear that and I'm so glad he's in this because honestly he's one of the best reasons why this film is good. His character is basically the audience he reacts to everything happening around him and he just brought this quality to his character that was so fun to watch. He plays the blue ranger and is from the first moment he appears onscreen he has you laughing and just enjoying his character R.J. Gives a fun performance that shouldn't go unnoticed. He is the heart of the film and really shines in the film and he gets you so invested into his character and just brings such joy and fun to the blue ranger I cannot wait to see what R.J. Dose next he impressed me once again with his great work in this film overall R.J. Delivers a fun and hilarious performance that is fantastic.
Becky G. : Becky G delivers a surprisingly brilliant performance! Yes I said her work in this is brilliant and I'll explain why. The musical artist who now is branching into acting has done a terrific job in this film giving a layered performance that is so entertaining and fantastic to watch. She plays such a interesting character and we also got to see for the first time Becky G's range as an actor and she's incredible. She plays it so quiet in the beginning then she starts to open up and be raw emotionally onscreen and theirs one specific scene I found she really shines in emotionally. She just was really captivating onscreen and I bought her performance on all levels overall Becky G truly shines giving a fantastic supporting performance in this film.
Dean Israelite : Dean directs this film very well. When it was announced Power Rangers was going to go for the darker tone we were all kind of scared if it would do well since the latest fantastic four did the same thing and did a terrible job with that style. But I can safely say Dean balances the serious tone and light tones so well giving the right amount of both tones used in the film as well as getting as sold cast with fantastic onscreen chemistry as well as getting great performances from his cast as well. Also to add he gave the fans of the series a fun film and had little Easter eggs for the fans of the series kids like me grew up loving and he just did a fantastic job with this film directing it incredibly well. It could of gone so wrong but he juggled so many things and they all landed extremely well. Overall Dean delivers impressive direction on this film.
The Lighting : the colour pallet in this film was very well done. Since the tone was more serious at times it really went for the grey dark tone and the colours used worked out really well. As well it mixed colours of bright yellow to showcase the more light hearted moments it just had this perfect balance of colour used in this film.
The score : the composed music in this film really brought the picture alive pumping the audience with adrenaline and just made the frame pop out and have the right sounds for the right moments it just was extremely well crafted.
