Movie Review : Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street
Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street
This film was phenomenal on every single scale from the art direction down to the acting. This was one of the best films of 2007 and that I have ever seen. Johnny Depp was brilliant so was Helena Bonham Carter. The score and directing was perfection. I give this film the highest recommendations I
have ever given a film.
Rated: R for gory violence, sexual abuse & some language.
The story of Benjamin Barker. A man condemned to prison for years and when he gets out seeks revenge on the people who ruined his life.
Johnny Depp was perfect for this role. Best performance he has ever given on screen. He didn't copy the other portrayals of the character - no he put a piece of his soul in this role that made it convincing and intriguing and makes you feel sympathy towards him. Johnny Depp got an Oscar nomination for this role. He deserved it not because it's Johnny Depp because it's a great performance. He was up against that year's big time contender. Daniel Day-Lewis, for his role in There Will Be Blood and he won against Johnny but there should of been a tie because they were both stellar performances. Johnny put his bones and heart into this role. He deserved every nomination and award he got for this film. Overall best Johnny performance I have ever
seen because you haven't seen Depp act evil because were all used to the loveable Jack Sparrow. He turned it around and that's what I loved about it. Highest recommendations on any performance I
have ever seen.
Helena Bonham Carter gave the one of best actress performances I have ever
seen. She gave such an amazing portrayal to this character you can't really
figure her out. That's what she did so well at playing onscreen. Johnny
Depp and Helena are the best screen duo ever. Helena deserved an Oscar
nomination for Best Actress. It was so rich and beautiful she was a joyful,
hopeful and loving character in the film. She wanted just to help Todd and
be there for him and that was beautiful to see. Best performance!!!
Alan Rickman played one of the best disliking characters I have ever seen
which he made so convincing. That's a great performance. He breathed and
slept that character - he brought it to life.
Very unpredictable because it's a mystery horror that's the brilliance of
Tim Burton. He puts you in a film and gives you little hints to keep you
craving for more.
Tim Burton gave the best directing and creative film of his career. I have
seen many Burton films of his such as Sleepy Hollow, Alice in Wonderland and
Edward Scissorhands. But this film felt like they did an operation on
Burton's brain, opened it up and put his designs and thoughts into this
film. It was designed as a Burton movie from the sets to the lighting. You
can tell this is Burton's vision which was great. Tim Burton, as I have said
before, is one of the best creative and original directors next to
Tarantino. He deserved a Best Director nomination at the Oscars - definitely
his finest film he's ever done. He has definitely outdone himself.
The lighting was great. It was like the one from Sleepy Hollow, dark and
eerie. I loved it! They should use that lighting more often in films. It
helped explain the character and the story within the lighting; to show you
he has a dark past. Definitely should of gotten an Oscar nomination.
The cinematography was brilliant! The shots of Johnny in the barber shop
slitting the throats was great (I'm not saying killing is good kids!). I'm
saying the way they shot it made it look like he was actually doing it.
Great job!The makeup was great. I haven't seen so much use of blood since Saving
Private Ryan. There was quite a bit and the makeup they applied to Johnny
and Helena was perfect! Oscar nomination worthy!
The score by Stephen Sondheim was legendary. It was eerie, haunting and
chilling. It got me soaked up in every minute of it - loved it!!
