Movie Review : Fifty Shades Freed

Fifty Shades Freed
It's over I'm freed! This film is the final instalment in what will go down as one of if not the worst film trilogy of all time. Now I know how so many people love to just bash the hell out of this franchise but I will say this film is probably the best out of the franchise. Not saying it's fantastic or great but comparing to the other two films this film is so much better. The other thing that was good was Dakota Johnson I actually enjoyed her work in this she has finally gotten better with her portrayal of this character she tried in this film which is what I wanted and she gave it which I was pleasantly surprised by. The music also is greatly used throughout the film.

Now for the negatives this film abandoned what it was known for a edgy sexual erotic story and they traded that in for b level action and a thriller styled plot why I don't even know. The film has a damn car chase in a romance film with guns and kidnapping it's so incredibly stupid that you can't help but laugh that they are actually going for a thriller driven story in a romance based film it's kind of amazing.

The plot is very narrow once you discover what the characters are involved in that's it their is no side plot or any other sort of exciting narrative to be told the film goes uses this stalker plot as the central key of the story and that's it. That's the other reason I had a issue it was to direct and then the pacing was off as well as the style. The film like I said attempted to be a thriller but it's a romance so you have scenes that are erotic then it goes back to this action narrative and it constantly goes back and forth doing it so it feels tiring by the end and the excitement they try to execute only comes  by the last few minutes of the film. It felt very out of place and trying to tie it into the romance just didn't work for me.

The film also without spoiling it rips off twilight breaking dawn part 2 remember when at the end of that train wreck of a film it had this reflective montage from the past few films yea this film dose the same thing and I was laughing because they actually went for it and that's how they concluded this trilogy.

This trilogy started in 2015 three years ago and it could of turned into a good franchise like some romance trilogy's like before sunset but it never executed well it was a mess of a film and trilogy all together and it has it's enjoyable moments that are brief but that's it. Overall Fifty Shades Freed concludes the trilogy on a note that is better then the last two but doesn't leave you satisfied whatsoever. This film like I said could of been great but instead turned into this laughable trilogy and it's disappointing because at the heart of it I see theirs a really interesting story their somewhere. By the end of this film you'll feel happy  that you won't have to watch this trilogy ever again you'll feel freed.

Rated R : language, sexual content, brief violence, graphic nudity

This film revolves around Christian Grey and Anastasia after they got married and now their a couple in love and happily married but when Anastasia's past comes back it isn't for the good.

Dakota Johnson : Dakota You did it you actually tried to give a good performance in this trilogy and it worked! I've said time and time again this girl can act from great performances in Black Mass and 21 Jump street she can act we've seen it and she's finally brought her acting skills full front here. Johnson gives her final portrayal of this character a great farewell. She brings heart passion and emotion to the film and it's great to watch. Dakota has truly great moments in the film and you genuinely believe her their are moments where she is so upset and heartbroken and you can see it impacts her as Dakota sells it so well you can't help but feel for her. But she also can be a tease and very flirtatious and she dose that a lot in this film and it could of easily of been to much or just stupid but she dose it in a way that's very funny and charming to watch. She really brought the character to life in the film with great lengths of emotion that is executed greatly here and shouldn't go overlooked. I am truly surprised in the best way too. Overall Dakota gives the best portrayal of Anastasia in this film and goes out with a bang.

James Foley : Foley gives terrible direction I'm sorry but it's true. I will say it's a improvement from fifty shades darker which I think was the worst but come on man you could of done way better for the final film as well. He did a terrible job at pacing the film as it felt slow in parts and rushed in others then you have the whole issue with the styles he brings to it as well it felt so out of place with the thriller vibe he attempts to go for but falls flat and feels very awkward in a romance trilogy. Then on top of that mess he couldn't even make it exciting the point of a film is to entertain not bore and he couldn't create any excitement or pleasant moments in the film sure theirs some but come on you could of at least tried. Overall they should of brought on another director to helm the final instalment as James's direction on the previous film left me so let down and once again here showing how far he's fallen and that he couldn't even give us something compelling for the last film in the trilogy resulting in a mess of a film.
