Movie Review : Billionaire Boys Club

Billionaire Boys Club
This film is quite a well rounded crime drama! Yes this film has Kevin Spacey it is very awkward when he’s onscreen but just because he ruined the film and his career due to his unacceptable personal behaviour the other hard working actors shouldn’t have to be suffered for his consequences. Because once you remove him from the film their are at the heart of it a really well acted tale of the rise and fall of on mans greed and how it cost him everything.

The film has terrific performances across the board but it’s  from Taron Egerton and Ansel Elgort that elevate the film with their  gripping performances that really is the pure enjoyment I had with this film. Both actors show incredible range and both being amazing contribution to the screen if your a fan of either of those actors watch the film just for their work on this alone because you won’t be disappointed.

As well this film doesn’t glamorize Joe Hunt sure their is his successes and they for sure show that but they showed him for who the man was a businessman that got high on his own supply and untimely messed his life up majorly and the film dose not shy away from the more disturbing moments the show it all the highs and the lows. It’s very truthful in its telling of course some of it has to be dramatized but for the most part it’s a solid film that I really liked sure it feels similar to The Wolf Of Wall Street but you can say that about any Crime Drama like Scarface, Wall Street, GoodFellas their all style wise very different but they all follow a similar beat so you can’t say that Billionaire Boys Club is ripping off the Wolf Of Wall Street when theirs so many other films that have the same concept as well.

This film at times can feel boring as their is a lot of build up but takes a while for it to really get interesting. So if the director could of just cut some of the talking bits down and execute the build up it would of come off as more exciting instead of just talking heads the entire time.

Overall This film is a solid Crime Drama surrounded with truly great performances from its leads that are worth watching I do recommend this film for people to watch.

Rated R : for language throughout, drug use, some violence and sexual content

Based on true events a man named Joe Hunt is fresh out of Harvard and has the world in the plam of his hand but when his friend persuades him to try putting his skills to other use his success comes fast but at a price

Ansel Elgort : Ansel gives a strong lead performance in this film! He’s been getting better and better roles and he’s really been expanding his range as an actor and to see him take on a Serious Crime Drama was fantastic. Sure he did the same with Baby Driver but he didn’t have that much dialogue here he gets more to work with and really knocks it out of the with his great emotional range. He plays Joe Hunt and in the beginning  he’s very innocent and naive and then by the end he is very angry and sinister. The transition that Ansel has in the film is a big one and he takes it head on with great layers of emotion and he shows sides to him he hasn’t shown before onscreen which was so nice to see him explore territory that he hasn’t gone before. He slips into the bones of this character so well he truly becomes this man and when he delivers the dialogue he makes it sparkle and you believe him he brings such a truth to when he talks that it feels so genuine and real. As well as his Chemistry Taron Egerton was perfect you really bought them as best friends and it seemed so natural onscreen. Ansel just never ever bores the audience he always brings something new to the screen to entertain the audience and dose here once again. He has  great depth and a truly knockout dramatic performance that was incredible to watch I hope he takes more of these roles on in the future as he really excels in it again Ansel delivers another fantastic performance.

Taron Egerton : Egerton Steals the show for me! Taron shines onscreen with an amazing dramatic turn in this film showing great lengths of range we haven’t seen him ever show onscreen before. He’s tackled action films and sports films but never really drama and excelled greatly at it. He brings such an edge to his performance that made it so compelling to watch onscreen. He plays this loose cannon who you never know what he’ll do next and for the most part he’s comedic in the film with his character then towards the end he goes through a transition and totally switches it and goes very serious and very dramatic and the way he could just flip it within seconds and just deliver a menacing and serious punch with his dialogue and with his presence onscreen was amazing. He just became this character and was one hundred and ten precent committed onscreen giving his absolute all and just relishing in the character that he’s portraying. Their are moments where he can be so supportive to Joe then be absolutely just so terrifying it’s just brilliant acting due to his fantastic emotional and acting range he gives you a performance to remember. This shows that Taron is perfect for drama films which only wants me to see him do more drama films as it’s a great fit for his style of acting. What I loved about his Work here as well was his ability to be so emotive with his eyes and face he was so expressive with the way he handles his character onscreen. He steals every scene he’s in and gives a tremendous supporting turn in this film

James Cox : Cox gives decent directing on this bio pic. He delivers on the side of getting your interest but at moments feels like he could of delved deeper into this true based story. That’s the only problem I had with the film was since it is a true story it felt like a lot of it yes was touched upon but he could of easily of but a lot more into it because a good portion of it felt glossed over. That is one of the few problems I had with direction and then was the pacing which I voiced about earlier in that the film had so much built up but never executed until much later which felt boring at times. I did though admire his realistic take on this person and not to glamorize him but tell the story as truthfully as possible no matter how bad it got he showed it and I admire him for that fact. He did the film well but could of been a bit better if he just tweeked a few things. He did get great performances from his lead actors but besides that theirs nothing really about his direction besides how he directed his actors that stood out to me so an overall good directed film.
