Movie Review : Tag

Tag
This film is a turn off your brainer fun film! Tag is a film I throughly enjoyed it was a fun popcorn flick with great humour a great cast and just a delightful time. I liked this film more then I thought I would in a year where we have had a lot of serious films that have come out and have yet to come out it’s nice to have a break and sit back and laugh for a bit which you can find in this film.

First off, right off the bat I knew this film was going to be dumb fun Because when the premise is five guys who play tag for one month for the last 30 years and the fact it’s based on a true story which is hard to believe I already knew it was going to be at the minimum a fun time and that’s what it game me and I didn’t expect any more or any less. The cast is terrific in the film from Jake Johnson to Ed Helms and to the one avenger that didn’t show up in infinity war because he was to busy playing tag Jeramy Renner. The cast all have great Chemistry and the humour lands.

Overall this film is a great film which is just a fun film that you can sit back relax and have a great laugh I really enjoyed it and loved the humour and surprising amount of emotion put into it as well this film was a delight to watch.

The film is based on a true story and centres around 5 childhood friends that reunite every month every year to play Tag but their goal this time is to get their friend who’s never been tagged once will they succeed?

Rated R : for language throughout, crude sexual content, drug use and brief nudity

Ed Helms : Helms gives a delightfully hilarious and emotionally layered performance. Helms has been having a good year with his film about Ted Kennedy that came out earlier this year and now this he’s really been doing solid work and reruns to his comedic roots in this film. In the film he plays one of the many friends who play tag but to me he was really the heart of the film as he gets everyone to reunite for the month and is the most invested in the game. He plays the character dead serious which only makes for the comedy to come across even funnier and not in a way that is annoying but he knew when to say certain things and when not to his comedic timing in this was solid. But he also has a few moments of sincere emotion which actually is quite touching and shows how great of an actor he is that he can switch it in the snap of a finger and transition into a different side emotionally and he makes it work. He was a blast to watch onscreen he had great Chemistry with the cast and you can tell he’s having so much fun in this role. This is one of my favourite comedic roles he’s done recently and you’ll see why when you watch his performance here. He brings the Comedy he brings the heart and maybe some tears all of which blend together brilliantly. You really buy that he is into this game and in ways is holding on to his past and you invest in his character he dose a bang up job all and all Ed Helms is terrific once again giving another strong performance.

Jeff Tomsic : Jeff gives a great job at helming this ridiculous story and really making it work. This premise sounds like it shouldn’t work on film but Jeff directs it in such a style that it dose and he dose a great job at it. He brings the fun commodity and joy to the screen with great stunts and humour but also a great amount of heart that really shines through in the film. What I love about what he brought to the film was he didn’t take it seriously which was key and he just had pure fun with the concept and just crafted together a  fun popcorn flick to just have fun with which is what we need more then ever. His ability to mix comedy with surprising amounts of serious emotion actually worked when it shouldn’t of but his ability to balance it out was perfect. And he never makes the humour feel to much or to small but just the right amount and he got a great cast who I bought as friends. He did a terrific job with this film really showing his strength at directing this fun comedy overall great job Jeff.
