Movie Review : Incredibles 2
This film is Incredible! The long awaited sequel is here and it somehow even surpasses the first film. It’s been a 14 year wait and it was well worth it trust me it was. This film packs all the fun and action you expect and more with great tender moments that are surprisingly more emotional then I thought it would be but also giving great amounts of humour that leave you with a grin and action that leaves you amazed.
First off, the choice to make Elastic Girl the centre of the film was such a great choice as the first was about Mr incredible it was nice to see Miss Parr take the reins and us the audience get to see more of her abilities and character arc take centre stage. Which is a great female empowerment message that is woven in their that’s not in your face obvious but is still their and used well. But they didn’t let the other characters become background extras but also let them also get their shining moments as well. Mr Parr stays at home and really connects with the kids and it leads to great comedic moments but also some emotional moments that are perfectly fleshed out.
Secondly, This film also doesn’t recycle the same tropes from the first film but really brings something new to the table that is highly entertaining. It expands the world of the incredibles while also bringing the old characters back that we came to love in a fresh new adventure with low key nods to the first film which I loved it didn’t rely on the old premise but crafted one that not only was new and fresh but better in every way.
Lastly, in a world now where we get superhero films left and right this film that came long before the genre became popular delivers a fun filled story centred around with great action comedy and emotion delivering Disney’s best sequel to date and one of their best films period. This is truly Incredible!
When a tycoon calls back the hero’s to try and legalize them so society can accept them once more Elastic Girl gets called in to be the calling card for the hero’s while Mr incredible takes care of the kids but Elastic Girl runs into trouble that she never imagined.
Rated PG : some action sequences and some mild language
Holly Hunter : Hunter delivers a energetic and entertaining performance of Elastic Girl once again. Coming hot off the critical hit the big sick Holly Hunter once again delivers another dynamite performance as Miss Parr with great style. Holly brings so much emotion and layers to her portrayal of the character this time around in a way she didn’t get to expand in the first which felt great. Since we got a lot more Score time with her we got to learn more about her and understand her in a better away giving a great character arc for her as well as giving Hunter amazing room to showcase her character onscreen as well. Hunter brings this Energy to her performance that is so endearing and genuine you truly believe she is Elastic Girl she truly soaks up the character and takes it head on. Giving great sly humour and then amazing dramatic delivery and it always lands greatly. She’s the lead in this film really and she dose it greatly once again giving an amazing outing as everyone’s favourite superhero mom once again Holly crackles the screen with a spectacular voice performance that nearly steals the show.
Craig T. Nelson : Craig brings such depth here you don’t expect! As Elastic Girl is out Saving the world he’s coming watching the kids and he really shines great here. He could of played it such a one note performance just showing humour all the way through but he doesn’t he brings such layers and range with his outing as Mr incredible here and I love that. He has this ability to make you break out in laughs within seconds but then can just warm your heart with his delivery of his dialogue of how he wants to be a great dad and that truly shows how great Craig is at showcasing his acting chops. He is magnetic onscreen giving his best outing as the character in this film and sure it was fun seeing him kick ass in the first and he still dose but theirs a way he plays the stay home dad that just was so right and the way he captured the character onscreen giving the best delivery through every line just worked brilliantly. Overall Craig brings his best outing as Mr incredible here that is truly something special.
Brad Bird : Brad your a freaking genius! This man wrote and directed the first and this one and he’s a damn brilliant man. His ability to tell a story and never let the action overpower the story he always has the main focus be the character and let’s that be the driving force of the film and I love and respect that. He centres the characters who he gets you to love with a great plot around them and then showcases it all put together onscreen with great style which he always dose and did back in 04 and once again dose here. His ability to showcase female empowerment was such a bold and strong move to do and I love that he did that because we need that more then ever but he didn’t let it be in your face obvious or constantly reminding you it was low key and woven in the story which I loved seeing the mom take centre stage. But he also Delivers the action you expect and the comedy while also letting really fantastic emotional moments hit you like a punch in the heart. To let the dad stay home and switch it up was a brilliant idea which led to great comedic moments but also great moments of tender and heart to heart moments that really move you. He captures all of that so perfectly and not loose the audiences attention once showing the great mind of a writer and director Brad Bird expands upon his world here with great style and a great story giving a damn good sequel excellent job Brad just Brilliant.
The Score : The Score composed for this film is the same composer that did the first and he brings his beautiful melodies back baby! His great use of Sax and all the other great key sounds blend together perfectly and is melted onscreen with sheer beauty. He captures the mood and setting of the film so greatly through his use of music and sound and no other composer could of done this specific film except for him great job. And definitely check it out it is worth a listen.
