Movie Review : Ready Player One

Ready Player One
The mastermind of 80's films returns to form with an amazing thrill ride that will blow your mind. Spielberg has crafted his best film since minority Report and it feels so good to say that. He not only gives us the fantastic spectacle we all want but he also gives fantastic lengths of humour, drama and emotional depth wrapped in the greatness of 80's nostalgia mixed with this great plot resulting in a truly astonishing film that will have everyone talking.

Firstly the characters are tremendous in the film their not just recyclable characters you'll forget once you finish the film but these are characters you'll genuinely care about and invest in. Most memorably would be Olivia Cooke she delivers a very strong performance here and for me is definitely the stand out of the film that just gives strong work in the film. All the characters all bring something to the film their is no weak link in the cast their all equally entertaining to watch onscreen.

Secondly, the visuals are off the charts amazing. The film's big strengths are in the virtual world where it just breaks all the rules and showcases so many jaw dropping visuals it takes a moment to process it all. It's all designed and shown beautifully onscreen with incredible colour bringing such life to the world that we're witnessing Spielberg really makes you feel immersed in this film and dose a damn good job.

Finally the thing you guys have been waiting for me to mention which is the pop culture references. Without giving anything away I will say this I am aware people don't like how we are into pop culture overload with all the shows and movies that use that as a crutch nowadays but here it felt so appropriate and Spielberg was able to have these great homages of characters from Vinod games movies and television without it feeling to much balancing it out perfectly leaving the audience with a big grin on their face. Ready Player One is a monumental achievement that was perfectly done by Visionary director Steven Spielberg and shows people with this film that it's ok to be a dreamer delivering one of his best work in years and one of the best films I've seen all year.

Rated PG - 13 : for sequences of Sci-fi action, violence, bloody images, so,e suggestive material, partial nudity and language

This film revolves around a teenage boy named Wade Watts that takes place in the year 2045 when reality is to gloom so people escape to the virtual world called the Oasis. But when the founder dies and leaves a challenge that whoever can figure out his challenge will gain complete control of the Oasis but who will prevail?

Olivia Cooke : Cooke delivers a strong performance here that is entertaining from start to finish. When she first appeared onscreen i thought she was just going to be giving a fine performance but no she actually excels greatly in this film and I'll tell you why. In the film she showcases great layers of emotion, humour and strength and she really gets you to care for her character and invest in her. She brings great life to her role being at times very closed off and then slowly opens up more overtime and it's a great arc to watch happen onscreen. She has moments of genuine emotional parts then the next can just dominate the scene in fantastic witty humour she's truly terrific In the film and a true highlight of what I loved about the film was her work she brought to it. I couldn't imagine anyone playing this role she fit it so beautifully just having great fun with her role and you can tell overall Olivia brings another great layered performance in this film that will for sure entertain you another great performance from Olivia once again.

Steven Spielberg : Steven delivers masterful direction here! Steven has shown us countless times he can give us damn good films but he hasn't given us a big blockbuster like this in years and wow dose he deliver on all levels in tremendous fashion. He brings that whimsical feel to the film that magical tome but also gives us great amounts of action, witty humour and emotional punch scene as well all balancing out greatly throughout the film. He was able to grapple this story and just breath such life into it giving us the right style and tone for it and not overdoing it with the homages but just the right amount. He exploded our minds in amazement with the amazing visuals he was able to capture onscreen but also knew when to tone it down and have more serious moments as well. His style was perfect for the film and no one else could of helmed this project but Spielberg. He showcases once again here that he can capture our imaginations and blow us away with his amazing ability to immerse us in the story at hand which he dose great while also loving the characters and the great story at hand. Giving his best work in years Steven truly delivers a return to form with his spectacular direction here. Steven has done it again great job Steven.

The Score : the music composed in this film is beautifully well done. Alan freaking Silvestri gives one of his most magical and bone chilling score pieces he's ever done period. The composer from back to the future and avengers has outdone himself giving great incredible melodies that are so well done. It was able to express every moment perfectly knowing when to be loud and intense then also be slow and more quiet he paced it perfectly crafting a truly amazing score piece here that deserves to be recognized. Overall Alan delivers once again another amazing score.
