Movie Review : Star Wars : The Last Jedi

Star Wars : The Last Jedi
This film is a truly spectacular follow up to the force awakens! This film had some many high expectations fans wanting it to be a good follow up to the force awakens as well as answer some questions that was unanswered at the same time not rehashing the same formula but not being to different. For me this film delivers on every scale it brings the great action, great emotion and sparkles the magic of Star Wars what more could you ask for.

The performances as well from everyone onscreen is terrific. The real standout being Mark Hamill giving his greatest outing of Luke in this film giving a career defining performance that steals every scene. As well Daisy delivers another great performance as Rey once again. Everyone involved gives great work. The direction as well was fantastic giving us something we haven’t seen before with a new style that screams Ryan but jells with Star Wars so well.

The only flaw I would say is their are some side plots that do slow the film in some parts besides that this film is a fantastic film that will have you grinning all the the way like a child. Star Wars the last Jedi is a truly mesmerizing film that stands next to Empire strikes back as the second best Star Wars film.

Rated PG - 13 : for sequences of sci-fi action and violence

This film picks up after the events of Force Awakens with Rey practicing with Luke as the resistance takes on forces from the first order they could of never predicted

Mark Hamill : Hamill gives a emotionally gripping performance in his latest outing as Luke Skywalker. Mark gives a harrowing performance that will captivate you with his amazing delivery of emotion that leaves you teary eyed. He isn’t in the film for as much as I thought he was but for the scenes he dose have he puts his heart into this performance that he’s showing onscreen. The way he delivers his dialogue with such pain and fear was brilliant. Their are two moments in specific where he truly shines I can’t say without spoiling but I’ll say he cry’s and the tears streaming down his face and such great amount of emotion felt so real he was so emotionally exposed and so real. He hasn’t delivered a performance of this magnitude before not just Star Wars but period. He knows this character inside and out and just when you thought he couldn’t bring anything new and surprise you with this character he dose just that. He showcases so many layers and delivers the emotion like a punch to the chest. The sheer pain he shows on his face to the crackle in his voice he really blows me away with what he brings to screen. He makes me laugh he makes me cry and delivers a truly moving performance that is truly astonishing. Overall Mark delivers a powerful emotional performance that is brilliant.

Rian Johnson : Rian delivers solid direction! Rian has so much on his shoulders with this film and the hype following it as well as serving the fans and delivering a good Star Wars film all at once I think he did a tremendous job at delivering all that and more. His style he brings to this film is dark and gloomy but also has its fair share of light heated moments and humour. He was able give us the sparkling style that Star Wars is while giving us something new with a style we haven’t seen which some don’t like but I thought was refreshing and something different which the franchise needed. He gave us great lengths of emotion as well on top of great performances from the entire cast adding a career best performance from Mark Hamill. Then giving us the best farewell to Carrie Fisher Rian knocked it out of the park with his style and work on this film. He balances the darkness emotion and fun spirit all so well none feel to much or to less it’s the right amount and results in a fantastic Star Wars film all thanks the great direction by Rian. He brings the film into new territory but also not forgetting the sparkling style of Star Wars giving the right amount of both tones combining perfectly together. Overall Rian delivers astonishing direction brining a great refreshing new style to this great franchise.

The Lighting : The colour pallet of this film explodes in beauty! The great amount of colour shown onscreen is amazing to watch. The use of the colour red and white are shown a lot in the film but has great purpose for it. It was able to express the more emotional scenes so well with it’s great mix of colours of yellow and orange the lighting just helped make the screen pop and be so expressive. Great job guys I loved it.

The Cinematography: The camerawork in this film is the best camera work ever done on the Star Wars Saga. It was so expressive with the amount of different angles and shots they used. The way they explore the different places and we’re able to showcase the emotion through the lens was impressive. I loved how they made the shots fill up the frame to give it this grand scale feel that just felt right. Overall great work here.
