Movie Review : Call Me By Your Name
Call Me By Your Name
This film is an emotional well acted film that will be talked about for years! This film I had no prior knowledge about going in and after seeing the film I'm mesmerized not only by the terrific story unfolded in front of you but the great performances from the entire cast. Armie Hammer is fantastic so is Michael Stuhlbarg But Timothee Chalamet was the scene stealer I don't want to single anyone out or favour anyone over the other but he gives a riveting performance that is one of the years best performances. This film is more then just a love story it's a story of your first crush love and heartbreak and it's captured and shown onscreen so well you can't help but want to see the film again. This is truly a remarkable film that will stay with you long after it's over I highly recommend this film it's dazzling from beginning to end.
Rated R : for sexual content, nudity and some language
This film revolves around a teenager spending his summer in Italy and when a man comes up to help his dad for the summer he can't help but he drawn to him.
Timothee Chalamet : Chalamet is phenomenal in this film! He's had quiet the year with Lady Bird also he's been doing great this year in great films but none of those performances hold a candle to this performance given here. He plays a teenage boy who in the beginning is very reserved and quiet but as the film progresses he starts to feel off his layers and really showcase and open himself up. The journey Timothee takes emotionally is fantastic to witness onscreen. From the moment he is onscreen you care and are invested in his character. He was able to show so many layers and different sides of emotions performance wise and character wise. Their are parts where he isn't even talking but silence is louder then words and their are truly great scenes that have that spark which he brings to the film. He also can laugh and be the most joyful person or be in love with such hope and happiness then the next just be torn from the inside heartbroken and tears streaming down his face. All that he presents to the screen and he holds nothing back he bares all in this performer and opens up emotionally and commits to every frame. When he speaks he talks in a way that you believe him it feels genuine the way he delivered his dialogue was great he really brings the words to life and makes it impact you. As well as chemistry with Hammer is truly fantastic overall Timothee gives a tour de force performance that is just stunning to witness.
Armie Hammer : Hammer delivers a career best performance. Armie I've seen in some previous film from the Lone Ranger to the social network. He's a truly solid actor who has great acting chops and shows greatly here in terrific fashion. At first glance you think he's going to be very sarcastic and full of humour but like Timothee he goes on an emotional journey and shows sides to the character that really makes the screen shine. The moment he is onscreen you can't help but be drawn to his performance due to what he's doing with his character onscreen. His ability to be able to shift emotions was amazing but also really emotionally bare himself onscreen as well was equally as remarkable. Their are moments where all it takes is a stare or a glance and you can tell how he's feeling then when he speaks he says it with such passion you believe every word he utters. The emotion is raw and he really commits to this film greatly. He could make you cry and occasionally smirk but that's the great thing about what he's doing he makes you feel so many emotions due to his great complex character he portrays brilliantly onscreen. Overall Armie delivers a outstanding performance here.
Michael Stuhlbarg : Michael has a shinning moment you can't ignore! In this film for the most part Michael pops up every now and then and he is enjoyable onscreen but is mostly full of humour and sometimes serious moments. But their is a specific scene in this film that blew me away with his execution of the scene. In the scene he's talking to his son and what starts as something small ends into a conversation that is very deep and full of great emotion. All due to the great work given by Michael onscreen. His delivery of the lines in that scene makes it feel so genuine and real and you can't help but be drawn into it. His ability to fully immerse himself emotionally in that scene was amazing. For that i have to say he gives a truly fantastic performance here that shouldn't be overlooked. What a great performance here given by Michael.
Luca Guadagnino : Luca gives genius direction on this film! I have not heard of this filmmaker prior to watching this film after seeing what he did here I definitely will keep an eye out for him. What he did that was truly great on this film was his ability to make it a film everyone can relate to. He presents onscreen what it's like to fall in love for the first time or your first crush and I thought by doing that was truly great. Also he casted actors that were relatively unknown so it has a very real look and depiction to it onscreen. You feel like it's real people and not actors and I loved that look he went for. Also his ability to capture great performances from the cast and really get great emotional scenes without it feeling over dramatic or overdone. He presents great emotion in a way that feels so natural and flows perfectly and then he draws you in with that wrapped up in the intruding story and great performances. He really just takes his time and tells this story and let's it unfold showing from the moment they fall in love to the end and the way he showcases it in the film was brilliant. Overall he has crafted a mesmerizing piece of cinema largely due to the great director at the helm amazing work here.
The Lighting : The colours in the film are explosive and so expressive In its story. The film has a great range of colours shown onscreen and it's use of yellow and everything was fantastic it really made the frame pop and be a great character for the emotional scenes tremendous lighting here very well done.
The Score : The music composed in this film is gorgeous! The melody's crafted in the film are extraordinary and amazing. The soft sound and gentle pitch of music makes the scene so expressive and really helps bring the emotion and it's just overall a perfectly composed score you can't help but love.
