Movie Review : Bright

Bright
This film was so damn enjoyable! First off I want to say the critics are panning this film and labelling it as the worst film of 2017 which is pretty harsh. I've seen it and I can tell you it dose not deserve the amount of hate it's receiving it is a fun film that has a plot line that is outside of the box thinking material along with fantastic performances. I was hesitating to watch it not due to the critics but because of David Ayers involvement in the picture. Because he let me down with suicide Squad but then I also had to remember he did write the excellent screenplay of training day.

I am glad though that I did watch it due to the reason not just of the originality at play but the great makeup and prosthetic too. The makeup used for Joel Edgerton's character was amazing I hardly could recognize him. Also I loved that they rated this film R it really benefited greatly for the rating to really have more creative freedom and not feel restraint in the material. It suited the film's style perfectly without overusing the R rating.

lastly I thought Will Smith gave a great performance in this i haven't seen him do an R rated film since Bad Boys and seeing him giving that kind of performance again just made me smile. Overall bright is a fantastic film that is so enjoyable with great original content great action and performances this film is a delight and I recommend people go check it out.

Rated R : language throughout, strong violence and nudity

This film centres around a street cop who gets paired up with another cop of a race which the town looks down upon but when these two cops go on a night patrol they get called into something they didn't see coming

Will Smith : Will returns to form with his work in this! Smith is one of Hollywoods biggest and popular stars and he's a solid actor as well but hasn't had such good luck recently with his films. He hasn't done a edgy R rated film In a long time not in drama territory but action and the last time I've seen him venture into that was in the 90's with Bad Boys and then the follow up sequel. Since then I haven't really seen him do material like that since and I'm so glad he chose to do this film because he shines returning back to the genre I've missed him from. In the film he plays a street cop who is racist towards his partner due to his race and he could of easily of played it as he hates him all the way through to the end. But he doesn't go that route Will captures many emotional conflicts throughout the film and dose not play it one note but a whole range of sorts. In the film he has great moments of emotional depth that really shine through and then the next can be so cold and just bring the dialogue to life with the great passion and style he brings to it. It's one of his best performances I've seen in quiet some time and he's terrific to watch onscreen. He also shares great onscreen Chemistry with Joel and they really have a great onscreen team and you buy them as a team. Overall Will delivers some of his best work in years with his terrific turn in this film.

Joel Edgerton : Joel dose a splendid job in this film! Joel is one of my favourite actors working today he's severely underrated. No matter what he's in he also gives one hundred and ten percent to everything he dose and he shines once again with his great involvement in this film. He plays a character who is hated by everyone in the city due to his skin colour and just wants to be a good man and a good cop. The way Joel brings the character to screen is so damn entertaining and fun to watch. He plays the character in so many complex ways and layers you can't help but be invested into his character and performance he's showing. You really feel for his character because every waking moment he faces insults and taunts and it each mean comment hits him like a push to the chest but he keeps quiet and shrugs it off. It's heartbreaking because Joel doesn't snap at any of the comments he keeps his head low and quiet from it and try's to stay optimistic and for his approach to that just amazes you but breaks your heart. He doesn't just stay quiet from the comments he also has a great amount of serious, emotional outbursts in the film and when he has them he commits you can hear from the change in voice to the look in his eye that he's giving it his all. The way Joel was able to deliver a performance with so many complex layers and attributes to him is what makes his performance stand out. He's unrecognizable onscreen and gives tremendous work here that deserves to be noticed overall Joel delivers on all levels once again with his great work here.

David Ayer : David redeems himself with his work on this film! David did great work here and I'll tell you why. He wrote a original complex and out of the box story that is so different some people are going to hate this film for its different style of has. I thought for that originality and different take was ballsy and brilliant I admire him for doing something different that's why I watch films for new experiences and he gave that to me. In the film he uses social commentary throughout the film but not to much that it gets annoying but enough that you understand what he's trying to wove into the plot line. I thought that was well done and very well executed as well as his great casting choices. He got fantastic performances from the cast and I loved that he got the R rating and he really uses it in the right way without it feeling overdone. What he did here is what could of happened with suicide Squad if it wasn't so restrained by the PG - 13 rating. If it was rated R I think it could of turned out greatly like how it dose here. His ability to capture fantasy, drama and then give doses of social cometary was well done and he doesn't miss a beat in this film. Overall David gives great work here showing if you give him the tools he can nail it which he dose greatly here.
