Movie Review : Darkest Hour

Darkest Hour
what a gripping film about  one of the most compelling historic figures in history! The movie provides Gary Oldman at his finest work here as well as a terrific supporting cast as well the film is tremedously acted by the entire cast. the story at hand is told so well and in such a way you can't look away it is so intriguing to find out what went on and find out facts you never knew before. This film is a fantastic film on evrey caliber from the acting to the fantastic story being told Darkest Hour is a knockout.

Rated  PG -13 : for some thematic Elemets

The story revolves around the time Britian appoints Winston Churchill as Prime Minster of the UK and he shakes things up when he is appointed people feeling mixed feelings about him and the approach he has to his position

Gary Oldman : Oldman gives a performance that electrifies the screen to the core! Oldman is one of my favourite actors and I've seen a good amount of his work and he's splendid in everything he's in but the work provided here by him is beyond what I've seen him do before. He plays Winston Churchill and he really is the historic figure and I mean that the transformation he makes onscreen is jaw dropping. The makeup captured Winston perfectly but the way it was applied to Oldman and then on top of the performance and the movements and the way he spoke Gary disappears into this role and it will truly astonish and amaze you. The moment he comes onscreen he has your attention and you can't look away when he spoke he delivered his lines in such passion and emotion it was so believable their is no false note in his performance given here he gives his lines incredibly great delivery to the speeches as well. He really embodied this role he moved liked him he had the same mannerisms to the way he would mumble it is fantastic to watch Oldman just burn up the scenery in great fashion. As well the great range he provides is incredible he could be so calm and very reserved with his emotion in one scene then just pour out of emotion with such passion and anger and the way he was able to tilt those emotions throughout the film without it becoming tiring or to overdone was great he gave the right amount of emotion for each scene without giving to much of it. I've seen a lot of performances this year but this one here for sure is one of the top three best of the year easily. The work provided by Oldman in this film is nothing shy of excellence and he will for sure be getting a ton of award attention for this film as he should because it's his best work I've ever seen him put  to screen. When I say he becomes the part he truly dose I forgot it was Gary onscreen all I saw was Churchill and when you can deliver a performance where you can't even tell it's the actor but just the person represented onscreen that's when you know you have a special performance on your hands. He just was so captivating to watch due to his transformational performance that is so electrifying to witness it's Oldman at his best work to date.

Joe Wright : Wright delivers terrific direction on this film! Joe Wright's previous work I have not seen but I have heard of his past films but after seeing what he was able to do with the material in this film I will definitely keep an eye out for him. Wright did a fantastic job at helming this film I say that because the story of the film could of been easily been a train wreck if not handled under the right person to direct it. He was able to do a solid job with this film by giving us a story that he kept intriguing all the way to the end. But the real stellar job he did was on the casting every person involved acting wise did a stellar job Oldman being the standout and just getting tremendous performances across the board from the cast. His approach to the film was very interesting the way he cut to different scenes and had the dates in front of the scene just the style he brings to the film made for a compelling watch. He let the film be about Winston but he also gave us information on the people around him so we got a better understanding of them instead of them just being their and just centring it around Churchill he made it about the whole picture and not just him. His style and approach to the film made for a great and entertaining film great work.

The Cinematography : The camerawork on the film was fantastic! The angles used throughout the film was outstanding the long narrow and full frame shots made it more expressive and really filled up the frame. Resulting in a well shot film that was able to capture the mood and tone of the film perfectly well while expressing what was going on in each scene.

The Score : The music in the film is amazing! The composed music for this is beautiful to hear. It had this old fashioned tone to it that just stood out to me and really helped and provided great emotion to the scene but also being able to express what they wanted you to feel even sometimes when their was no words but just through the music. It was incredible piece of music everyone should give a listen.
