Movie Review : The Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri

The Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
This film is a master achievement for film! This film is easily one of the best reviewed films of the year and I went to see it to see what all the great praise was about and after seeing it I understand why it's receiving great reviews because it's a tremendous film. This film is one of the best films of the year hands down it has terrific performances across the board to the sparkling direction and writing from Martin McDonagh. This film has everything I love about film it's so different and original i loved every moment of this film.

The performances first off are all solid from everyone in the film. The performance from Frances McDormand is riveting then you have a great supporting performance from Harrelson that is just terrific and then Rockwell giving the best work ever put on screen. The talent here is incredible and everyone gives amazing work all which I could see being nominated come award season.

The Direction and writing from Martin was beyond brilliant. Martin has outdone himself and I would say this is easily is best film he's ever put to screen. He dazzles you with images you've never seen before with a screenplay that's original and dialogue that's sharp and perfectly well written. He brings the audience on a journey unlike anything he's done before with great styles of humour, emotion and drama all presented perfectly onscreen. The Three Billboards isn't just a great film it's one of the best films I've seen period this film is a dazzling spectacle that deserves to be seen and deserves all the awards this film is a masterpiece!

Rated R : for violence, language throughout and some sexual references

The film revolves around a mother who's daughter was killed and since the police isn't solving it she puts billboards up to raise attention and solve it herself in a way that rocks the town to its core

Frances McDormand : Frances pours her heart into this film giving easily one of the best lead performances of the year and one of her best work to date! Frances is a incredibly talented actress as she's shown in films like burn after reading and Fargo so it came to no surprise that she delivered great work here. But it isn't just a good performance I would go as far as saying it's her best performance sure her work in Fargo is great but this performance here really raises the bar. She plays a mother who lost a daughter in a tragic way and will stop at nothing to find out who killed her daughter. The way she was able to bring that to the full front onscreen was breathtaking I mean that truly it was. The way she was able to deliver her dialogue with such style and passion was amazing she brought those words to life with her great energy brought to screen. She pulls all the punches here giving sides of true anger and then heartbreaking sorrow the next her layers she shows with her character and her emotion was outstanding. Their was not one moment I didn't believe what she was saying she was truly genuine onscreen and at times incredibly moving with how she executed a scene. She gives a phenomenal performance that deserves to win for best actress at the Oscars she's spectacular in this film. She's just so captivating to watch from her electric onscreen presence and amazing emotion brought to it as well. The sheer pain this character goes through you can see it that she wants vengeance and peace with herself she committed to every frame that I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Overall Frances delivers top notch acting and a performance that is the best performance she's ever given and one of the best pieces of acting of seen all year.

Woody Harrelson : He's had quite the year and again knocks it out of the park with another amazing performance! Harrelson has had an amazing year with War for the plant of the apes then the glass castle then this. In this film he gives a fantastic turn with a very emotional performance that moved me. Harrelson plays the Sheriff of the town and wants to find justice for the man who killed this woman's daughter and how Harrelson was able to portray this character was incredible. He brings his great style of humour to the front in the film but a equally great dose of emotional depth as well that truly blew me away. He has scene in the film where he's so open and exposed emotionally and raw you can tell from the crackle in his voice and the sheer scared look in his eyes it's real and it's brilliant. Their is one scene in specific that he knocked the dialogue out of the park and the way he delivers it just made me tears eyed. He really gives his all with his work here delivering a sublime performance that deserves to be recognized. His ability to showcase so much to this character and in my opinion give one of the most emotional performances of seen him give was amazing to watch. Overall Harrelson holds his own among such great talent in the film giving a solid supporting award worthy performance.

Sam Rockwell : Wow just wow! I've always said that Rockwell is a underrated actor who's given us great work in films from Moon and The way way back. Now the work he gives here is the best he's ever been period. He should be writing his acceptance speech for the Oscars because what he gives here is truly something special. He plays a racist cop who has no boundaries and is a bit of a loose cannon but their is so much to him that meets the eye. The way Sam presents this character was phenomenal he captivates you the moment he comes onscreen to the last scene because he is that good. He brought sides to himself that I haven't seen from him ever and for him to go so deep emotionally for this film and showcase sides we've never seen was incredible. He plays a guy you hate but it's because he was able to deliver such anger and menace onscreen and then deliver the dialogue in such richness you can't help but be captivated by what he's bringing to the film. But he isn't just a guy you hate theirs so much more he shows great lengths of serious emotion as well theirs a scene where he's crying saying I'm sorry and it felt so real it's a riveting work of acting. Overall Rockwell delivers a performance that left me speechless and amazed.

Martin McDonagh : Martin gives his best work to date with this film! Martin has truly outdone himself in tremendous fashion. He brings one of the most original and amazing  stories brought to screen since Pulp Fiction. First off the story at hand that he crafted here is amazing that's just a fact. He wrote such sharp dialogue it rips across the screen incredibly well with such a fascinating story at hand you couldn't ask for anything better. As well as his direction on this film was flawless as well he was able to cast the perfect actors to bring these characters to the screen at the same time as getting great work from the cast also. He created an environment in the film that felt very real and he made the characters feel very lived in the style he brought to this was genius. It has comedy with drama with a dark subject wrapped all in one. He kept it unpredictable with is rare in films today where anything that could happen can happen and he uses that and shocks you brings you to tears and has you laughing. His style is unlike anyone I've ever seen and this film is incredible due to the fact of the direction and writing and Martin truly knocks it out of the park with what he brings to this film. By far one of the best written and directed films of the year Martin is a master of his craft and delivers a knockout brilliant piece of film.

The Lighting : The tones of colours exploded onscreen was incredible! The colours used in the film had this rich gold tone to it that just fit what the film was going for and helped express the scene and was a great backdrop for the film. Great job guys overall great lighting.

The Score : The score and music injected into this film is Perfect! On the score side it has the right sound and melody to match the style and tone of what the film was going for helping build up suspense and also help express great emotion in smaller scenes too. Same can be said for the music as well it didn't feel wrongly placed the music was woven into the scene perfectly giving great use and meaning for it. Overall great score and music in the film.
