Movie Review : Good Time

Good Time
This film is spectacular! This film is one of the most mesmerizing and plus pounding films I've seen all year. This film is a truly fantastic film that Stars Robert Pattinson in a career defining performance along with a story that grips you and moves you and shocks you. This film was well shot well used with lighting and incredibly well exacted Good Time is outstanding film that shouldn't be missed.

Good Time sadly has been way way under appreciated due to the limited release this film got and not much word of mouth on it. This film deserves to be seen it is the reason we watch cinema to be entertained with great sparkling images that you will remember that's what this film dose greatly. The direction on the film is genius work by the Safdie brothers delivering a film that will stay with you long after you finish seeing it. Good Time deserves to be seen and I could even see Oscar nominations for this film it's that good and is on that kind of level Good Time is a Good Time.

This film is about two brothers who rob a bank and when they get caught one of the brothers get taken to a holding cell and the other brother runs around trying to get enough money to get his brother out because he dose not think he will survive the night and his brother will not stop until he gets the money to bail him out.

Rated R : for language throughout, violence, drug use and sexual content

Robert Pattinson : Robert delivers a career defining performance! Robert earlier this year did lost city of Z which he was amazing in and has outdone himself again with his work in this. But I will say this performance he gives is so far superior to anything he's ever done in his career ever. He plays this brother who robs banks and needs money to bail his brother out. Now this character he plays isn't a good guy he's not redeemable whatsoever he's a very shady and bad guy and the way Robert brings that to the screen was pure genius.

The moment Robert enters the scene for the first time he grabs you the moment he walks in the first scene and dose not let up for a moment. He embodies this role and gets in the skin of this character truly transforming in his performance and it's brilliant to witness onscreen. His great depth he has throughout the film was amazing their are moments where he's just sitting and you just look in his eyes and it's black and he just freezes and you can tell what's he's trying to say without a ounce of dialogue that's how powerful his work is he at times dose not need to speak a word to amaze you.

He is so raw and real onscreen you can tell he really cares for his brother and looks out for him and will do anything to make sure he's safe but he also can be dark and mean and Robert wasn't afraid to show those sides and he holds nothing back he pulls all the punches in this performance. When he speaks the pain and anger and fear in his tone to the sheer look of seriousness drawn across his face Robert fully commits to every scene giving his absolute all making it not even feel like acting but making it feel incredibly real. When you can do that you know you have a special performance on your hands and Robert for sure dose here.

His layers to his character are explored greatly throughout the film which also gets us to see the emotional changes Pattinson can do through the film and at times his character is brutal and Robert doesn't shy away from that he shows this character for who he is and I loved that. He was so real onscreen with a truly unique and special performance I won't be surprised come award season he delivers a performance on the level of Oscar caliber and truly this is a mesmerizing performance you can't take your eyes off of. He crackles the screen with fantastic acting and not only is it his best performance of his career but one of the best performances I've seen all year Robert is a powerhouse in this film.

The Safdie Brothers : These Brothers have crafted a modern masterpiece truly I mean that! These brothers I have seen no work of theirs prior to seeing this film after seeing what they did here I for sure will watch what they do next. Reason why is because they deliver beyond what I thought they would in the greatest possible way. The Safdie Brothers first off drenched this film in Neon and it was the perfect style for the film and really brought the screen alive as well as making the city this gritty and scary place I love how they also use the city as a character throughout the film that was incredibly well done.

Also they make you think it's going to be your typical thriller bank robbery film it is so much more then that they deliver layers of drama, thriller and brotherhood as well as crime and all of which are incorporated beautifully into the film. They were able to surround the film with a strong cast and get a career best performance out of its lead as well as keeping you intrigued with the story at hand and reminding us why we love the cinema.

These brothers went above and beyond what I expected in the most brilliant way possible people should keep an eye out for these two because they are a force to be reckoned with. They wrote and directed a film that will go down as a modern masterpiece of cinema. These brothers give spectacular direction which should not go unnoticed.

The Lighting : The neon drenched colour brought the screen to life! The film starts off with this bright vibe which worked greatly but then really immerse with so many other layers of colours that are used perfectly in the film. Uses of the colour red or blue it's just the perfect style of lighting for this film it fit the tone perfectly and gave the scene great colours to really make the scene pop which they did amazingly. Overall amazing lighting guys just brilliant.

The Cinematography : The Camerawork on the film is terrific! The film has a great deal of close ups which in a lot of cases could get annoying but this film uses it so effectively it is put to great use. It's ability to fully show the scope of the environment and the city was amazing it filled the scene up and really got your pulse pounding at moments too but also was great at using it for the smaller moments too it just was well shot and used terrific angles to express the film.

The Score : The music in this film felt like a mix of Daft Punk and Trent Raznor and Atticus Ross. The score had this techno, electric sound to it that just rippled in beauty. It was so well composed it was able to get the adrenaline going and the pulse pounding but then could go very mellow and very long with expressive emotional beats that were so effective. It fit the film's tone beyond perfect and was just such a great score it's one of the best composed pieces of music for a film I've heard all year.
