Movie Review : Battle Of The Sexes

Battle Of The Sexes
This film is truly entertaining from beginning to end! This film tells the true story of one of the greatest and most tense Tennis matches ever. The story is told incredibly well onscreen by the talented cast of Steve Carell and Emma Stone both who deliver strong solid work here. As well the film not only packs great performances but also great humour at times and some serious emotional punches as well. This film is the female Rocky that will have you standing on your feet cheering. This film is a truly entertaining picture that shouldn't be missed.

This film tells the true story of Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King and one of the most harrowing and gripping Tennis matches to ever be done.

Rated PG - 13 : for some sexual content and some partial Nudity

Steve Carell : Steve once again dominates the screen with another dynamite performance that lights up the screen. The performance given by Steve in this film is another one of his truly terrific performances that everyone will enjoy watching. Steve has really shown layers in recent years of showcasing his dramatic abilities and wow it's amazing he really knocks it out of the park every time he dose dramatic work and he dose so here again greatly. Sure he has more of a comedic beat going for his role in the film but he also has some really small and more intimate moments of emotion that are extremely moving to watch. What I love about his work here is he is so electric when he enters the first frame and just delivers his dialogue in such fashion you can't take your eyes off of him. He's hilarious he's entertaining and he's damn good in this film. He plays this over the top showman in many ways with his approach to the sport the man Bobby Riggs who he plays he did incredibly well at. Not only did he get his persona perfectly but he also looked so much like him with the makeup and hair he looked just like the real guy and then on top of that and the persona and the personality which he brings to the performance you forget your watching Steve and you see Riggs up their and that's when you know you have a good performance. Steve was able to go crazy and over the top and just give such loud moments in the film that crackles the screen up but their was some scenes where he could just switch it and get very raw and real and it's in his eyes and the sound in his voice it's so genuine and emotional you can't help but get wrapped up in it. He's simply fantastic in this film and he brings the laughs he brings the emotion and he entertains you from the start to the very end. Overall Carell delivers a electrifying performance that I wouldn't be surprised gets some award attention what a truly great performance.

Emma Stone : Emma delivers a powerful performance in this film! Emma Stone recently picked up the Oscar for her role in the magnificent La La Land and now I think she may have to pick up a second because she is incredible in this film delivering another truly remarkable performance. In this film she plays the Amazingly talented Tennis Player Billie Jean King and she fully becomes this person 100%. In the film she has the hair the glasses the outfit everything she perfectly embodies her to the toe with her great delivery and remarkable passion brought to the screen. In the film she just blows me away with her incredible emotional range I already know she's a terrific actor she just pulls off another terrific piece of acting with this film. In the movie she has great moments of stress and pain and you can see the stress in the way Emma carries herself in the film to the tension in her voice and when she breaks down and just talks heart to heart to someone if feels genuine and it speaks volumes greatly. She captivated me with her amazing work in this film giving such great emotion while also being as entertaining as Carell I would love to see her walk away with a ton of awards for this film she deserves it. Overall Emma Stone knocks it out of the park once again.

Sarah Silverman : Silverman delivers a terrific supporting turn in this film! Sarah is one of those actors for most of her career she's been a character actor showing up in mostly comedy's. So when I heard she was going to be in this drama I was excited and she didn't disappoint. In the film she plays Billie Jean Kings manager and she is mesmerizing in the film from start to finish. In the film she plays it comedic but in a way we haven't seen before mixed with bits of drama that explode onscreen perfectly. She has this edginess to her to that is fantastic in the film. She doesn't as much screen time as most of the cast but what time she has onscreen she uses wisely and makes you remember her. She was hilarious dramatic and shows quiet the range for so little screen time she has. Overall Silverman gives a terrific supporting performance in the film.

Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris : These two have crafted a entertaining comedy drama! These two great directors brought us little miss sunshine in 06 and surprised a lot of people and here they bring the heat once again. In this film they tell the story of one of the most watched and biggest tennis matches ever and this film could of gone so terribly wrong in the hands of the wrong director. But they delivered greatly with this film. It didn't just scratch the surface of the true story we witness onscreen but it really goes deep into both of these people's lives as we witness great and tragic things happen to them on both ends. They got the perfect actors to play both parts as they also resemble the real people as well as delivering award caliber performances. Their style was very well done it has this fast pace to it but it never goes to fast it knows when to slow down and enjoy the smaller moments which was great. They deliver great comedy but also anchor a great emotional aspect to with a great message. These two once again knock it out of the park with terrific direction.

The Lighting : the lighting in this film I love it had this old 70's vibe I loved. It did what American hustle did and I love it they immerse you into the time through the colour pallet it had this vibrant and colourful feel to the picture which made you feel like you were watching a film made in the 70's. The film really benefited from it greatly and it fit the style and scenes greatly making it really pop and stand our overall great lighting.
