Movie Review : War For The Planet Of The Apes

War for the planet of the Apes
This film is astonishing! This film has it all incredible visuals, amazing set's, a tremendous score and a award worthy performance from the great Andy Serkis. This film packs so much heart and action with a surprising amount of tear jerking emotion as well. This film starts off with a bang and doesn't let up until the last scene this movie concludes such a great trilogy with a bang giving it the perfect ending. War for the planet of the Apes is not to be missed!

The film takes place after the events of the last two films animal and human are at an all time high and it's war either the animals get extinct or the humans everything has been leading up to this moment.

Rated PG - 13 : for sequences of sci-fi violence and action, thematic elements, and some disturbing images

Andy Serkis : Andy delivers an emotional punch powerhouse performance! Andy is well known for his work on the lord of the rings franchise for his voice work so we know he is a genius when it comes to voice work to many and I'm one of them I regard him as the greatest voice actor of all time. That being said his work in this is truly special and I mean that. In the film he plays caesar as we all know but this time he really raises the bar and he pulls out some really gut wrenching emotional delivery that really impacts you. When he speaks in the film he sounds like a preacher the way he's able to deliver lines with such passion and emotion is truly incredible to witness. He plays his character who has experienced everything at this point and lost so much so when you see his eyes even tho it's CGI it feels like it's his eyes theirs something about his work in this that is truly remarkable. As well his range of emotions were amazing what I loved was for the most part he never yelled very rarely dose he in the film. What he did that I thought was brilliant was he would speak his dialogue with the emotion that the scene required and would be able to switch it literally as he's using another emotion and make that as genuine and real as possible and it's truly genius. His ability to switch mid way through sentence and showcase such range and intimidation is incredible. When he talks Andy speaks with such authentic realism theirs no false note in his performance he genuinely believes what he's speaking and you can feel it I got the chills when he spoke he really gave us something we will be talking about for years. Overall Andy gives an Oscar worthy performance that should not be overlooked come award season because he truly gave one of the best if not the best motion capture voice performance of the year and one of the best performances of his career.

Matt Reeves : Matt directed this film so beautifully it's amazing direction at its finest! Matt directed the last instalment so I knew the film was in good hands but wow he raises the bar with what he brought to the table in this film. In the film he was able to get the best CGI motion capture work and it is so breathtaking to witness it looks real it doesn't even look fake which is amazing. From the Technical standpoint he gave perfect work on that. Secondly what I really loved and how he handled the war style was incredibly well done. Now if this was in the hands of another director this could of easily of fallen apart because it didn't look easy in the slightest and only Matt could capture so well what we see onscreen with this series. What I loved was how he went really dark for the style of the war tone he could of easily injected some more humorous moments but he doesn't he stayed all the way through with the Beale feel to the picture. He was able to deliver the tone without it going to the point of being disturbing but dark enough that it was able to work incredibly well with the emotion of the story. He creates a spectacular film with truly remarkable and well done action sequences and eye popping visual effects and astonishing set designs. As well the cast of this film all give great work in the film Andy being the standout but all doing great work. Lastly Matt did what is very hard to do he was able to keep the bleak and dark tone at the same time have moments of raw emotion to truly connect with the audience which is a hard wire to walk and he dose it so perfectly. Overall Matt gives truly great direction on this film.

The Lighting : The tone of this film is so bleak! The tone of the film is dark so the tones of colours is very grey and black and the use of that was very well done making all the other colours around the black grey environment pop out. I love how they made the colours match perfectly with the emotional tone of the film it just worked incredibly well great job guys.

The Cinematography : The camerawork in this film is outstanding! The use of slow mo in the film was put to extremely good use without it feeling overused and it was great to watch. The amount of overhead shots were very well done as well showing the scope from the audiences point of view as if you were their I love the feel of that great work guys truly great camerawork.

The Score : The music in this is amazing! It felt very loud and epic and I loved the sound of it just such beautiful melodies. The music was a huge character bringing out the right emotion at the perfect time having loud and really big and grand moments where the music would be extremely loud then could be quiet for the more intimate moments. I loved the composed music in the film great great job.
