Movie Review : Spider-Man : Homecoming
Spider-Man : Homecoming
This had me smiling the entire time and I haven't had that for a while! This film is the best Spider-Man film ever made yes even better then Spider-Man 2 it's that good. What makes this film better then the past films is that it's the most accurate to the comics and I love that. Tom Holland who gives great work in this film what I love so much about him as the web slinger is that he's the age Parker was in the comics and he is in high school and it feels perfect to what the comics were and what amazing spider-man was missing.
This film dose what the others couldn't which was its ability to have fun and inject humour without it feeling jokey as well as having a good dose of drama without it taking it to seriously and it's just the perfect balance of both tones that worked so well. This film has also one of the best Marvel villains ever on film giving us an antagonist we invest in and see why he dose what he dose one of the more memorable marvel villains in recent years.
This film is just so much damn fun and left me with a smile on my face it has the humour, the drama and of course the web slinging action we all love Spider-Man : homecoming is one of the years best.
This film revolves around Peter Parker after the events of Captain America : Civil War and Peter trying to prove to tony he can be part of the team but tony just wants Peter to be the friendly neighbourhood spider-man
Rated PG - 13 : for sci-fi action violence, some language and brief suggestive comments
Tom Holland : Tom is the Spider-Man we have been waiting for! Tom is the perfect fit to play this role and I think he is the best actor who's ever played him. Tom showcased him in a small part of the film of Captain America : Civil War and he was the best part of the film getting me extremely excited for his standalone film and wow is he fantastic in the film. Tom is great in this film and I'll explain why he for starters channels the web slinger we loved from the comics and it's amazing to see. He isn't to serious note the film he is just a teenager dealing with teenager things and he was able to go through a slew of emotions without any of them feeling to intense or to small he just was perfect in this film truly. I'll start by saying in the film their is a bunch of comedic moments and Tom's delivery is fantastic it never got annoying or irritating in the slightest he just knew when to say the right things at the right time and it always landed. Besides his great comedic timing he also was able to channel great emotion to and when you see him show that on the screen it feels so genuine like he really means what he says and theirs not one moment you don't believe him he really gets under the skin of the web slinger and gives a great performance. For his first film of playing this character he had a lot of pressure and a lot of expectations to live up to and he surpasses them in amazing fashion by giving a entertaining performance full of great colours of emotions that will leave you with a smile on your face. Tom Holland is the best actor to ever play Spider-Man and this film shows you why.
Michael Keaton : Keaton is terrific in this film! When I heard Keaton was the antagonist of the film I was at first hesitate to go along with the villain but after seeing a bit of the trailers I had more faith that this could be good due to the casting because this could of gone so wrong if in the hands of the wrong actor but Keaton shines and brings such life to this character. Marvel has given us good villains but not ones that are exactly memorable but Keaton really makes his screen presence known and he makes you remember him due to his great performance in the film. Keaton plays a guy who wants to provide for his family and he knows the rich and famous don't give a thought about the every day hard working man and he wants to show them that their not any more special then him. I loved that I love how grounded and relatable his character was you understood his motivates and the way Keaton was able to show that onscreen was great. He gives such menace to his role in the film but you can't help but understand where he's coming from that's why I think his character stands out from the most recent villains. Keaton for the most part plays it not to loud or over the top but just loud enough to make you fearful of him and it's great. When he speaks he has such passion inside of him that you genuinely believe him he commits one hundred percent to the scene and you can't take tour eyes off of him. As well through the film he switches his emotion he is able to go from menacing to nice and upbeat which to me is more scary then if he was to not be upbeat. Because we know his motives and who he is by then which makes it more eerie. Their is a specific scene that he made my jaw drop by his ability to intensify the scene just from his shift of emotion and amount of passion he brought to the dialogue. Keaton is a force to be reckoned with in this film and is incredible truly one of the best performances we have seen from the antagonist in Marvel films that truly stand out.
Robert Downey Jr : Downey gives a small part in the film but enough that you can't help but want more! Downey plays in this film smaller then I thought he would. In the whole film he's probably only in it for about 6 minutes and we didn't need more we got just the right amount of him without him overshadowing the film. In the film Robert is more of a mentor in this one showing the new blood how to do things and what boundaries he has to stay in and he dose it in a way that is just fantastic. Downey was able to give his usual humour but also give some moments of true emotion and he dominates the screen with his great emotion when he's onscreen and you can't take your eyes off of him. Even if he was in the film for a smaller portion of the film he shines in those few minutes he has and gives another great outing of Tony that is both humorous and serious giving the perfect balance of emotion and great performance.
Jon Watts : Jon gave great direction on this film. I have not seen any of Jon's previous work and will check out his future and past work because after seeing what he did with this he's talented. Jon directed this film incredibly well because this Spider-Man film could of fallen apart so easily under the wrong hands and he truly Knocks it out of the park with his work on this. Jon gives us a fresh Spider-Man film what he did so well was not give us the same formula we've seen before he steered it into a new direction giving us things we haven't seen before. Instead of redoing the whole origins and uncle Ben death he has the plot just pick up after the events of civil war without hitting you over the head and explaining of what has happened or what's going on. He leaves the audience to discover things as well as giving a even keel of tones of drama and humour without one feeling to much or to little it was the right balance that worked greatly. As well he didn't let the big stars overshadow the film even though Iron Man is in the film he gave him little screen time because this is Spider-Man's film and he didn't let him overshadow it but just enough screen time to enjoy his time in the film. As well he gives us a great villain who we care about and understand why he dose what he dose he crafted a great Gillian that stands out and isn't forgettable and cheesy one of the best villains for marvel not recent time for sure. Lastly he gave an accurate film to what the comics were in the comics Parker is in high school trying to balance school and being a superhero and he dose that so beautifully in the film. He has the right actor around the same age Peter would be in high school showing us moments of him struggling with school and his powers showing what the comics were giving a loyal portrayal of what the comics gave us. He also never took the material dark or to serious what the other films and yes I'm looking at you amazing Spider-Man what the other films lacked was the fun of it. He never made it to dark or to light he just gave us the right amount and shows you can have a fun Spider-Man film with both tones if balanced well and he dose just that showing it can be done. Overall Jon gave truly fantastic direction with his work on this film.
The Lighting : the tones were great in the film. I loved the vibrant and colourful tones the lighting went for. It has this explosion of great colours that really makes the screen shine and brings such style to the film and I loved it. It was able to match what the scene was trying to convey I loved the tones of colour in the film.
The Cinematography : the camerawork was great in this film! The camera had great use of angles in the film. It's ability to put you in the middle of the action and get you to feel like you were their was amazing. Their were parts where I felt like I was in the outfit swinging along and I loved that the sense of being put in the middle of it without it feeling to jumpy or to many cut angles it was. Very smooth. Overall I loved the camerawork.
The Score : the music composed for the film was great used. I loved the use of the music and how the score was very mellow but was able to match the scene's emotion so well and just the style it went for the music expressed it so well. I loved the score very well done.
