Movie Review : Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman
This is one of the best superhero films of all time! Patty Jenkins gave genius directing and incredible performances across the board from Gal Gadot to Chris Pine the acting is top notch. As well is the action sequences and I haven't seen well choreographed fight scenes like this since Captain America : The winter solider
Why this film is receiving just incredible praise is because this film sets its self apart from many superhero films the performances for one you don't get in many superhero films where the performances are award worthy except in rare cases like Logan. As well the film isn't taking on so many side plots it's focusing on one story and it's great so it never gets confusing or convoluted. Lastly it's a origin story for so many films like Batman Begins they dedicated the whole film to just the beginning mostly this film has the origin story without taking to long to tell you how she's Raised then jumps into the action without it slowing down.
But what really stood out wasn't the action it was the message that the film carries and the message is to stand out and fight for what's right it's an incredible message and a great empowering female action film that the world has needed and it's truly fantastic. Wonder Woman is one of the best films of the year and is DC's best film since the Dark Knight and is an absolute blast from start to finish.
The story tells the origin of Wonder Woman and how she became who she was and a battle she must help the British win in order to stop all wars and Wonder Woman won't let that happen or stand by and watch.
Rated PG - 13 : for sequences of violence and action and some suggestive content
Gal Gadot : Gadot is Wonder Woman and she is incredible in this film! Gal played the iconic character in last years Batman V Superman and even tho that film was a mess I would say and many would agree she was one of the best parts of the film. Now that she got her own film we get to see her beginning and she how she became who she is and wow Gal is amazing in this film. She plays a woman is sees society is so easy to quiet or keep their head down and she was raised to do the opposite to help to love. The way Gadot was able to show those emotions onscreen was incredible Their are so many parts in the film where she stands out for me and it's great to watch. She really immersed herself in this character when you see her in the film you see Wonder Woman she has made the part her own and you don't see Gal onscreen you see Wonder Woman and I love that. What else I loved about her work in this was since it's a origin story we get to see so many layers of emotion and depth from this character and Gal showcases her range incredibly well in the film. She was able to be humorous at times the next her smile could light up the room and then theirs the anger and passion in her voice that is so real. So theirs so many changes of emotion her character goes through it's terrific because then we get to see Gal channel emotions we haven't seen her explore before like when she's crying in the film it feels like real heartbreak and you believe it when you see it onscreen it's so genuine and real. I can't leave out her onscreen chemistry she shares with Chris Pine wow those two have some of the best onscreen chemistry I haven't seen in a long time. They had this great connection and you believed they were friends overall Gal Gadot gives a powerhouse award worthy performance.
Chris Pine : Pine knocks it out of the park in this film with his performance. Last year Pine gave in my opinion the best work of his career in hell or high water. And once again he gives another truly fantastic performance. He plays a British spy in the film that wants to do good and help stop the war and I'll say this Pine could of easily given a one note performance and play the jokey side kick which happens a lot. But he doesn't do that sure he has humour but he also has great emotional depth as well in the film. What I love about Pine is no matter what the film he commits one hundred percent and he dose so here infernally well. He brings a great range of emotions and complexity to his performance in the film. Pine goes through a emotional journey in the film and I'll explain how. In the beginning he he comedic and had more jokes and was more humours but by the end he really is different and has matured and shows more emotional depth and I love how we are able to witness that character arc by an incredible acting range as well from Pine. He is able to show great strengths of humour without it feeling annoying or constant his comedic beats would hit at the right times and it always landed it was always the perfect timing and just worked. Then for his serious emotion he could really shine in a scene from his ability to bring life to the dialogue he's speaking with such passion and the look in his eye he just would captivate the scene with his incredible acting. He walks the perfect line of comedy and drama and it's perfect he could switch it and play both key emotions with great genuine and real acting theirs no false note in his performance he plays give a terrific character arc and emotional performance. Overall Pine delivers one of his best performances to date!
Patty Jenkins : Jenkins is brilliant! Jenkins has done a incredible job at helming this film. Patty Jenkins was able to take such a loved character everyone knows and try and make the best origin story but at the same time not be similar to films that came before it but not be too different. Patty was able to juggle all those things at once and delivered a great film. She was able to make the film a fantastic origin tale without making the whole film the origin and dragging it out. She gave a brief telling of her origin without it feeling rushed but long enough that you understand her upbringing. As well the casting she had was fantastic she had Robin Wright, Danny Hudson, Gal Gadot and Chris Pine but what was great about the casting was her ability to capture fantastic onscreen chemistry with Chris Pine and Gal Gadot as well as getting great performances from her cast. At the same time making the film fun and full of action and humour without making it to serious and dark. I loved how she approached it that way as well as the female empowerment and how the females could stand on their own without relying on the men I loved that aspect. She just really captured a terrific film due to incredible direction. Overall Patty gives outstanding direction to a film that was very difficult by did incredibly well due to her vision. The film had a war and mythology tone to it and it could of gone so wrong under the hands of the wrong director but Patty's vision created simply not just a good superhero film but just a good film In general overall amazing direction.
The Lighting : the colours were amazing! They tone and colour pallet was wonderful to watch. It had this yellow gold tone to the film that really stood out it is a very colourful film and I love that. So many films try be dark and grey and this film just was bright and vibrant and made the frame pop out and I loved that it should be noticed it helped really express the scenes well. Overall the Lighting did a terrific job at expressing the colours in the film.
The Cinematography: the camerawork in this film is terrific! Their is great overhead landscape shots that are able to capture the scope of the film. As well as the action it was able to capture it beat for beat. For example Their is a scene where Wonder Woman is having bullets hitting off her outfit in slow mo and the way it was shot was incredible it didn't feel cheesy but was just captured perfectly that it gets you engaged and overall the camerawork was fantastic.
The Score : The music felt like Junkie XL's Mad Max and I love it! The film had a great use of heavy drums and loud sounds and I loved it they really made you notice the music. It helped create tension in scenes as well as help capturing great emotion overall this is a Score worth listening to and defiantly worth checking out I loved it.
