Movie Review : The Lost City Of Z

The Lost City Of Z
This film is a cinematic masterclass achievement! This film is truly amazing and I really mean that this film is one of the years best films that will have you thinking about it long after seeing it.

This film is incredibly well casted and acted by such actors as Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller. The film is stunning the camerawork will make you see such beautiful imagery caught from the lens as well wrapped with such a captivating and fascinating story that is told so well. The film people have said is boring due to the dragged out runtime of the film but I disagree it's boring in any sense the film is long because it shows from beginning to end this marvellous story that had to be told right so they made it long because they wanted to capture the sheer beauty of this story and they have achieved that so well.

This film gives not only incredible storytelling but amazing direction by James Gray his vision of this film is truly extraordinary. As well as the career best performances given by the cast as well this film will captivate you with the gleaming imagery sharp writing, incredible acting and truly outstanding story the lost city of Z is a true work of art that shouldn't be missed.

This film is about a man who seeks a city a city of gold and won't give up his journey for it until he finds it but that journey is not an easy one.

Rated R : for violence, disturbing images, brief strong language and some nudity

Charlie Hunnam : Hunnam gives one if not his best performance to date! I watched Charlie's wonderful acting in the film King Arthur despite the film being a terrible movie his acting is the only thing I enjoyed because of his ability to really captivate the audience and dominate the screen which he dose here once again in this film. He starts his journey for the lost city of Z over a period of years so the great aspect of that from a performance perspective is to be able to watch and examine the emotional journey Charlie's character undertakes and the many layers we see peeled back from him in this film is incredible. Their are so many scenes that he really shines in for me theirs one in the beginning where he's speaking about how he believes their is a city of gold and everyone doubts him. The passion in his voice and the intensity in his eyes was extraordinary to watch. He just carried this weight on his shoulders that he wants to find this place so bad as well the psychical transformation he makes is great as well. He has some fantastic makeup and he really went into the part and really became his role. He had a great ability to play more subtle and quiet moments with such gentle and tenderness but then could strike passion and inspiration in you with his outstanding rage and pure emotion. Charlie gives one of the years best performances and his best performance to date!

Robert Pattinson : Robert delivers a career turning performance that is truly incredible! Robert is known for his more charming good looks and dose mostly romance films and is known worldwide for his role as Edward In the twilight saga. So when I heard he was in this film I didn't know what to expect after seeing it wow am I amazed with what he did in this film. Robert has never really branched out to showcase his serious draw roc muscles before  he dose in this film and it's amazing to watch. He showcases sides to him we haven't seen before he brings such an intensity and seriousness to his role in the film and he is brilliant. Their were times where I was saying that's Robert because his makeup was so well done you could hardly recognize him that shows he's doing a great job when you can't even recognize the actor but only see the character he's playing that takes true talent. I am incredibly impressed that Robert is breaking out of his usual films he dose and his branching to do more serious material after seeing his work in this I will for sure watch his future projects going forward because his dramatic abilities are amazing. He went to places he hasn't gone before emotionally and psychically and he really shows a side to him we haven't seen and it's magnificent. He had such emotion that their were scenes where he shows such fear and anger and sadness he really expands his emotional range giving such a layered performance committed to the scene to give his best work possible and I love that. Overall Robert gives one of his best performances of his career and one of the best supporting performances of the year.

Sienna Miller : Miller is outstanding in this film! Miller has impressed me time and time again with her work in American sniper and Foxcatcher and she knocks it out of the park once again with her work in this film. Miller doesn't have as much screen time in the film compared to her other co stars in the film but when she's onscreen wow she dominates the scene. She has two really incredible scenes in the film that really got my attention. She was so emotionally raw onscreen it felt so real her performed she gave the dialogue such life with the way she spoke them. She could be so quiet and give the most quiet kind of scene then next explode in such emotion that the hairs on your arms raise. She was incredible in this film and it's sad to see no one is really seeing the great work she brought to this film he performance she not go unnoticed she is truly brilliant in this supporting performance.

James Gray : James is a visionary! James capture such beauty upon the screen and this is a director I haven't seen any previous work from but after seeing this I'll for sure keep my eyes on his future projects because he knows how to direct a film. First off he casted the perfect actors to play these roles capturing such electric performances from them then at the same time giving the visual look of the film the same amount of attention. sprinkled with such Gorgeous pieces of melodies of the score as well. His style is so original and incredible to see he focuses on the emotional aspect of the film but also brings such beauty to the screen with his ability to capture the look and the environment of the film so well and make it so majestic to see. This is why we go to the movies to be transported to another world and he achieves that without a doubt. James Gray was able to give such a compelling story wrapped with great performances and visuals and a style that's unlike anything I've seen in a while. Gray gives one of the best directed films of the year with his work on this film. James Gray is an absolute visionary and a genius.

The Lighting : the colours were so rich and bold. The colour pallet in this film is very yellow and dark yellow a very gold feel to it. It not is just lighting in this film it's a character within itself giving such incredible colours to the screen immersing the screen in it showing the beauty of the landscape but it's ability to try new colours to give the audience the full experience. The lighting was brilliant I loved it.

The Cinematography : The camerawork in this film is extraordinary! The camera captures images that make you feel such emotion it makes you feel a sense of wonder Intensity and adventure. The way the camera was able to capture this film is truly fantastic. It had great landscape shots and great close up shots it's just stunning to watch. Truly this is one of the best shot films of the year.

The Score : the music is marvellous! The music had this mellow very soft feel to it that got in your bones. The score was able to evoke such emotion in the more quiet moments then really bring it up for the more intense scenes and then just go back to being mellow. The music is a huge character in this film it's so beautiful it's a great piece of music I love it.
