Movie Review : Cars 3
This is easily one of my favourite films I've seen this year! This film exceeded my expectations and I am so glad it did. I avoided all the promotional stuff for this film not seeing the trailers expect for the first sneak peak of lightning rolling on the track besides that I avoided all the promotional material as I wanted to be surprised. I was so happy I walked in blind folded because this film is an absolute blast from the very first frame to its last. This film brings the fun heart the second film was missing and what the first film had. I would go as far to say this film is better then the first film and I'll tell you why
This film is better then I expected and better then the first due to the plot they give us. Lightning McQueen is not in his prime anymore he's older and he doesn't know if he can do it much longer or if he has it in him anymore due to new blood. The messages they deliver throughout the film is a great moral message for kids and adults also can relate to what their talking about too. Not only is the plot good but it's so dam fun you can't help but smile.
It also has a finale that I thought was very touching and threw me for surprise in the best way. It had the racing we all love as well as the old characters we love to giving us great humour some real emotional moments really giving depth to the scenes which I haven't seen in a Pixar film in a very long time. Overall Cars 3 is a triumph that will have you standing and cheering this film is fantastic.
Lightning McQueen is still racing but when he finds out he is beaten by the new blood he comes to realize he isn't the young hotshot he used to be mileage has caught up to him and he has to come to the choice if he wants to continue or retire
Rated G : for all ages
Owen Wilson : Wilson gives fantastic voice work as our favourite race car once again! Owen Wilson is known for this role and has been doing this character for the third time now but his performance as Lightning in this film for me stands out from the other times he's played him for me. I think he knew since we have seen him play this role twice that he needed to show another side to him we haven't seen before and we do. Their are moments serious emotional moments that get to me due to the great dialogue that's written and how Owen is delivering it I felt a genuine realism behind that voice that he really meant what he said. I loved how Owen was able to give us more smaller and more intimate moments we haven't seen him or the character explore before. He truly threw me by surprise by how stellar he is in the film he was committed to every scene giving his all and I love that. He was able to deliver a layered emotional performance giving us humour, joy and serious emotions too and he executes all those emotions incredibly well in this film. Overall a truly great performance by Owen Wilson.
Brian Fee : Bryan is a genius! This is Brian's first ever directed film and I can tell you he knocked it out of the park. Brian could of easily of gone the cheap route and just given us the same thing we have seen just racing with the same recycled plot but he didn't do that he brought the franchise in a new direction. I think he knew cars 2 wasn't exactly right so he took control of the project and steered it on the right course. He brought this days of Thunder vibe to it that I loved sure it may seem a bit similar to the first film but it's so different then what we're used to seeing in a cars film or in a Pixar film in general. He made the film grounded in reality and gave it such an emotion tone that worked so well with the story and the characters that it left be speechless but how well he helmed this film. He captured the heart of the first film and he also didn't forget to have fun with the film and give us great splashes of humour and racing but he also put a touching message and moral lesson for kids and adults can understand. I loved the direction on this film he did a truly great job with this film overall extraordinary direction.
The Lighting : the tones were very colourful! The splashes of different colours I loved it really brought the screen to life and made the frame pop out. Playing with different tones and colours to match the scenes and the emotion perfectly it was great good job guys.
The Cinematography: I loved it! Their was a shot in the teaser I loved and it left me speechless too it's a shot of Lightning flipping upside down in slow motion and I love the way the camera captured that moment and so many others in the film so incredibly well without it going to fast with the angles or to slow it just had the right feel to the picture and they captured it beautifully.
The Soundtrack : I love these tracks! The music in this film had be tapping along their truly are some great songs in the film that really match the tone and feel of the film perfectly the soundtrack is definitely worth checking out.
