Movie Review : Baywatch

Baywatch
What an enjoyable fun filled movie! This film has received mixed reviews from many people. I personally think this film is a blast and isn't remotely bad at all this film is probably one of the most fun films I've seen all year. It is filled with great onscreen chemistry from Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. Also this film is cheesy fun what I mean is that the show back in the 80's and 90's it was a cheesy over the top show so it gave the film the Devine right to do the same with the film so you can't give it any negative comments because the film knows it's cheesy and it goes for it. That's what makes it so fun it's so over the top filled with non stop humour a great plot and of course slow motion running this film is an absolute blast from start to finish.

This film is about Baywatch and when drugs come to the sandy shores of the beach the lifeguards will do whatever it takes to protect the bay at all costs.

Rated R : crude sexual content, language throughout and graphic male nudity

Dwayne Johnson : Dwayne is cooking up a comedic dish in this film and it's spectacular! Dwayne last year really flexed his acting muscles with his comedic turn in Central Intelligence a film that showcased the rock can do comedy. What he brought to the table in this film that was new and fresh was since we saw his ability to do comedy last year in Central Intelligence this film really brought to the full front of how far his comedic skills can go and it's fantastic to watch. In this film the rock plays the head lifeguard and his comedic timing was perfect he wouldn't make a joke feel forced or cheesy or cringe worthy it flowed and worked extremely well at the right moments. So his comedic beats were great in the film he really made me laugh and he shows a more raunchier side to his comedy in this film since it's rated R he's allowed more creative freedom. As well the chemistry he shares onscreen with Zac is terrific their banter back and forth between each other is so entertaining to watch. The Rock gives a great performance in this film being so likeable and charming as always but also brining a layer of comedy to his performance while at the same time keeping that tough image he's made for himself. He was very entertaining to watch in the film overall Dwayne Johnson once again delivers another truly marvellous performance.

Zac Efron : Efron gives one of his best performances I've ever seen from him! Zac impressed me with his work in Neighbours and how he was able to do comedy extremely well then he did Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates another great comedic performance from him but what he dose in this film that sets this performance from the rest was the layers his character has. In the film Zac plays a self absorbed self centred guy who thinks he's the best and anything he dose is the best and he is so defensive but once he starts to open up you see how hurt Zac's character really is and the way he played that was truly terrific. He was able to show such great comedy in his performance but also bring a bit of depth and emotional weight to it which really made his performance stand out in this film. He was able to balance the comedy and serious aspect well and make it look so effortless. Their are times where Zac is just hilarious other times he really makes me feel for his character and believe him because he feels so genuine. Overall Zac gives a layered performance I haven't seen from him before which makes it  truly standout and showcase one of Efron's best performances to date.

Kelly Rohrbach : Kelly gives a fantastic supporting performance in this film! Kelly is an actress I have not heard of and has played small roles so this I would say is her breakout role and she really shines in the film. Kelly plays one of the lifeguards and is more of the comedic characters what I mean is she isn't the serious one she's the character to lighten up the scenes and she truly dose with her fantastic comedic abilities and charming performance. She is able to say the right things at the right time without it getting repetitive  as well as knowing when to be in a scene and when to let the other actors bring their characters to screen. Because she steals the frame she really is entertaining and it's so easy to overlook her performance due to the strong leads in the film. Kelly just put a smile on my face whenever she was onscreen and she just brought a fun performance to the film that i thought should be noticed I will for sure check out her future material overall a fantastic supporting comedic performance.

Seth Gordon : Seth gives his best direction on film yet! Seth has directed such comedic work as Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief I have to say this is probably his best work he's ever done. I'll tell you why like I said the show was cheesy and over the top so Seth was able to go as cheesy and over the top as he wanted because since the show did he could too. Which really gave him creative freedom to do whatever he wanted and it really worked out well. As well his ability to capture comedy in this film is fantastic from his great cast of The Rock and Efron. As well the onscreen chemistry he was able to get from the actors were great. He brought this really fun filled summer film to the screen and I felt it is Seth's best work due to his ability to get a great cast by also getting great performances from them as well as staying true to the show without going to teenish on it and as well having lots of humour. It worked on all levels that's why I say Seth gave his best direction with this film what great direction by Seth.

The Lighting : The tones were very obviously beach like it had this grain feel to it and a yellow colour to it that really made the picture feel bright and stand out which I loved. It was very colourful and I loved that about the film it wasn't just one colour it was many overall great lighting.

The Cinematography : The camerawork in this film was great it was able to really capture the scope of the beach incredibly well and showcase the heart of the film through the lens. As well as capturing the action sequences incredibly well overall great camerawork.

The Soundtrack : The music in this film was great it had some popular beats that really got me humming and it's a soundtrack defiantly worth listening to.
