Movie Review : Free Fire
Free Fire
This film is a muddled mess with very little too none character development which will make it a free fire to shoot this film off your list of movies to see this year see what I did their. Anyway beside my terrible joke this film is a in a literal sense an action film because it never stops. What the film lacks is the ability to create weight with the the characters but their isn't any so theirs a disconnect to the characters and you don't get invested in them and that is sad to see. As well the cast was a well put together cast and is so unfortunate that they weren't able to save how bad this film is. The movie is a mess of a film that has to much action and so little dialogue that it gets exhausting and that's why I say free fire missed all their targets with this film.
The plot revolves around a group of people meeting up to have a arms deal but things go south and everyone ends up in a fire fight
Rated R : strong lanauge, pervasive language sexual references and drug use
Armie Hammer : Armie delivers a entertaining supporting performance in this film. Armie Hammer has given us great work in such as the social network and so I know he can act so I was excited to hear he was in the film. Honestly he was the best part of this film and was one of the few reasons this film was tolerable. Armie just brought this witty humour to his performance that just was so fun and enjoyable to watch onscreen. As well he had bits of serious dialogue that he did extremely well at showing his more serious side also which was nice to see a shade of him I haven't seen before. He just really shines in this film and steals the screen with his great onscreen presence. Armie shows that he can really flex his acting muscles and do well in other ranges of films shown very well in this film. The way he spoke and was so quick with the dialogue made me have fun watching his work in this overall Armie steals the show with a fun supporting performance that is truly terrific.
Cillian Murphy : Murphy gives a incredibly well acted layered performance. Murphy shines in this film giving a fantastic performance in this film. He plays one of the many guys in the shoot out but what made him stick out among the others was his ability to get the audience to invest in his character and connect with him. Murphy crafted a great character and brought serious weight and depth so we know about his character and grow to like him. He achieves that by giving a truly great performance. In the film he has such a interesting character not knowing what side he's on and the way Murphy plays it was great also he was so committed to his character and really brought him to life through the great writing of his character. Murphy was entertaining to watch from start to finish overall Murphy is the best he's ever been in this film.
Ben Wheatley : Ben gave terrible direction on this film! I have not seen or heard of this directors previous work prior to seeing this film but I don't know if I will check his future projects after watching what he did with this. This film had the potential to be great but the result of that happening with any film rely on the director and the writer to give a good story and good direction. None of that was achieved well at all in this film. All the film consist of is shooting and sure it's entertaining for a while but then when it goes on for a hour and twenty three minutes it starts to get tiring. As well he did a very bad job at making these characters likeable in any sense because he gave no backstory for the characters so we are disconnected from them already he just threw a bunch of characters onscreen to be shot at countless times. As well the film has bad action too. When someone gets shot your done people get shot in so many places are are alive for 45 minutes that makes no sense. So he confused the audience if it supposed to or if he's aiming to make the film a slapstick comedy. He never really could make his mind up of what genre this rio fits under. Due to the lack of character arc and dragged on action. The director gave terrible direction on a film that could of been great. Wow what a good job at wasting a talented crew that could of been directed better by anyone else.
The Cinematography : The technical aspect was bad too only the camerawork I liked. I loved the way they could capture all this madness and really getting you to feel like your in the middle of it. It was well shot I'll give them that good job guys.
