Movie Review : War Dogs

War Dogs
This film is the best film of the summer! I was pleasantly surprised with this film the performances in this film are incredible along with the fantastic direction by Todd Phillips. This film packs a outstanding performance by Jonah Hill this film dose not miss a beat it is entertaining from start to finish.

When two young men in their 20's become gun runners for the government they are having the time of their life but can two much of a good thing go bad?

Rated R : for language throughout, drug use and some sexual references

Jonah Hill : Jonah delivers a truly outstanding performance in this film. This is not the first time we have seen Hill play a real person he's played in Moneyball and Wolf of Wall Street both that showcases real people and both earned him Oscar nominations. So we know that Jonah is incredibly strong in playing real life people. When I saw him in the trailer to be honest I thought it would be a ok performance nothing special because it looked more like a comedy from what I saw in the marketing. But I was pleasantly surprised by Hill's performance he not only stole the show I would call his performance in this film as his careers best. I know that's a big thing to say but I will say why. In this film not only dose he give us his side splitting humour but he also is incredibly serious and dramatic driven in the film as well. When he is being serious the tone in his voice the look in his eyes you can tell he is one hundred percent committed to his character to give the most entertaining and emotionally real performance he can and he dose. Like I said earlier he is also funny so he's able to balance both elements like Robin Williams did in Good Morning Vietnam very similar kind of performance where it is a serious performances with some comedic scenes. As well Jonah went all the way by even gaining a huge amount of weight for the role that's huge commitment. Jonah as well shares fantastic onscreen chemistry with his co- star Miles Teller and they get along really well the friendship between them onscreen felt very real and I loved that. So yea Jonah was simply fantastic in this role he evolves his character throughout the film and the way he was able to switch his emotion and be immersed in each frame his emotion and performance felt real and genuine not one false not in his performance. I would even go as far to say this performance is Oscar worthy I would love to see it get award attention as it is a outstanding performance by Jonah that should not go unnoticed. Overall Jonah delivers the performance of his career.

Miles Teller : Miles  is fantastic in this film! He is no stranger to dramatic roles as he blew us away by showing his dramatic acting skills in Whiplash which was an incredible performance that showed he can do serious roles to. So I thought that Miles was going to give a typical best friend performance and nothing really special but I was surprised by Miles as well for his performance. Miles is truly fantastic in this film he really plays the straight man of the film. And it pays off incredibly well. Miles was able to show the raw Emotion of the stress of trying to keep his job and just keep his head above water and Miles tapped into that and makes it look so genuine like the way he delivered his lines he truly inhabits this character. This performance miles gives is not only fantastic but also shows that he doesn't just go any movie that gives him money he wants to do good dramatic work and will wait until the right role for him comes in and I respect that. I will say this is one of Miles best performances to date and can't wait to see his next dramatic turn in Bleed for this coming out later this year. Miles has truly transformed into a fantastic actor and this film only shows us once again how great his acting range is overall Miles is simply brilliant in this film.

Todd Phillips : Todd's turn for a dramatic film is genius. Todd Phillips is best known for his work on the hangover series and that's a comedy driven franchise. So when I heard he was doing this film I was like oh another typical comedy from Phillips but I was surprised it was a drama driven film. Like Adam McKay who went from Anchorman to the dramatic big short is exactly the same thing Todd has done and I am very pleased to his his transition into dramatic films. Todd is able to capture the plot well and tell it to the audience so we can understand it while giving us a dramatic film with comedic elements around it. Along with a great performances across the bored. He never lost my interest in the film I was engaged with the film from start to finish. Todd has done a beautiful job on directing this film as a drama not many comedy directors can make that transition from comedy to drama and make it look good but Todd did and i hope to see him do more dramatic material in the future as I was very impressed with what he did with this film.  Overall Todd gives amazing direction

The Soundtrack : the music in the film made it feel like a Martin Scorsese film with the way he did the songs. It was old classic rock songs and it blended in well with the film great choices for the film.
