Movie Review : Nerve

Nerve
This movie is simply original, intense thrill ride from the beginning to end. Dave Franco and Emma Roberts deliver fantastic chemistry onscreen. That isn't the reason I call the film fantastic due to the chemistry I call it fantastic for the soul reason is that this story this concept is purely original content. We are fed sequels and remakes and reboots we don't really get films that haven't been copied before and when you find an original film it's great to see and that's what this film dose do well. It takes an original cool concept set for social media and thrills the audience with it leaving me satisfied in the theatre money well spent.

A high school student named Vee who always plays it on the safe side and never takes risks until her friends dare her to try a app that test your nerve (no pun intended) and she dose so and what happens is beyond her and finds out its more then she bargained for.

Rated PG - 13 : mild language, intense action sequences

Emma Roberts : Emma delivers one of her finest performances of her career! I know what your thinking she's to young to say that and isn't her performances all the same? Well I'll explain in films such as Nancy Drew, Were the millers and Palo Alto those performances are all the same medium. Teenager who try's to find her place with cute boys and the common sarcastic comment and yes she plays the same role in this film but from a different view. Instead of being the popular girl she's the shy and in ways outcast which is what we don't see from her usually and just from seeing that is refreshing for her to do. Then for the performance itself is fantastic because when I watch her in Her teen films it's always the same and I invest myself in her character but with her performance let's say We're the millers I don't buy her commitment to the role like I don't think she believes what she's saying onscreen which makes me loose engagement with her character and performance. But that's when I bring in the mention of Nerve in this film she dose make you believe what she says their is one particular scene in the film that stood out to me I won't spoil anything all I'll say is the scene was an argument between her and someone and just the look in her eye and tone in voice you just buy what she's saying and you believe in. Getting the audience more emotionally connected with the character along with her emotional range as well. In this film she is able to show her typical joyful self but then switches it to a more serious and sad emotional side of her which she dose not explore much and when she shines it onscreen my god is she captivating with her ability to bring the character alive through the emotion. Because when you can see the actor commit to their role and go the full hundred and show their layers of emotion it then feels more genuine and real resulting in a better performance. Overall Emma delivers one of her best performances I've seen.

Dave Franco : Dave Franco is brilliant in this film. Much like Emma we have seen him basically play the same kind of character the irresponsible teenager in films like 21, jump street, unfinished business and Now you see me. So it was incredibly nice to see him shine his acting range in different places and explore grounds we haven't seen him go across creatively and as an actor. In the film he doesn't  show his pretty boy self and deliver shallow dialogue which can be seen in many teen flicks these days. Instead of going in that direction he gives a emotional performance that wows the eyes of the audience. Dave isn't well known to be emotional onscreen I'm not saying in a comedic way I mean a serious way and my god he was brilliant by heading that way with his character. He could of easily played a typical performance and been a goofball no not this time Dave approached it as a dramatic role and it payed off very well. Their are many Moments in the film where he shines through with his dramatic take on his character. Their is one particular scene in the end of the film where he just rips himself open emotionally and just shows his vulnerability onscreen exposing his real emotions. The sheer look in his eyes looked so real and genuine. I've just never seen him go to that much of a serious place with any character he's portrayed onscreen and it was electric the result. I would love to see Dave do more dramatic projects he really excels in it. As well he was able to be funny to and dramatic and switch those emotions and just transition through that character turn so smoothly. Overall Dave Franco delivers a standout performance.

Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman : These collaborators really brought something thrilling and original that hasn't been done that is hard to find these days. Like I said earlier it's a lot of remakes, reboots and sequels and it's rare to find original piece films that have not been done before films like inception, avatar and memento just to name a few are films that were original concept films and resulted in a fantastic film which is what these two directors do well. It's a teen flick and is aimed towards the teen demographic but instead of doing a cheesy clique teen film which we see all the time to the point where I don't want to see teen flicks anymore because it's so overdone and the same thing they could of headed in that direction but chose not to. What they did that was so smart was they made it speak to the teen demographic and used social media as their concept an original concept and then put a message for teens to listen to which is don't go with the trend set your own path you don't need to do what everyone is doing to prove you belong as well as knowing your limits. You can see that through the film so they were able to bring all that to the table and execute it incredibly well. Brining a fun film to the screen and just an enjoyable time at the theatre. As well as the chemistry the directors cast two great actors and the connection the two leads share is electric overall great direction guys original concept is Always appreciated keep up the good work guys.

The Lighting : the colours in this film plays a big part in the film. They do very bright colours mostly red some yellow and a bit of orange and the result is amazing brining this fantastic look to the picture really getting it to pop out and show that teen flare I loved it. Then at times would be able to go grey and very grim looking loved the look of the film great job guys.

The Cinematography : Some worth mentioning shots their is a scene in the film where someone walks across a ladder and when someone rides a motorcycle blindfolded  and the tension and sheer nail biting suspense the camera was able to capture was brilliant. Getting scopes and shots from different angles to really engage the audience and they did just that. Loved the camera work great job guys.

The Soundtrack : the Music really got the film to express the fun and vibrant look of the picture with it's great beats and enjoyable tracks in the film loved the music.
