Movie Review : The Revenant

The Revenant
This film is astonishing, brutal and camerawork that will wow The eyes. Along with a powerhouse performance by DiCaprio and great direction by  Alejandro González Iñárritu. This film is one of the most cinematic and artistic films I have seen all year.

Hugh Glass a fur trapper is left for dead and plans to get back the people who left him dead.

Rated R : brutal violence, disturbing images and language

Leonardo DiCaprio : One of his finest performances of his career! Leonardo gives a intense psychical performance that doesn't have much dialogue. And still delivers  a scene stealing performance even with hardly any lines that's how good Leonardo is. When he isn't speaking what speaks volumes is the sheer emotion he shows on his face some actors would just pretend to show these emotions but when you watch Leonardo in this film everything in his performance looked genuine and real. When he was scared the look in his eyes and body language said it all he just pushed himself and it's amazing to see him so commit to his performance in this film. I think he deserves to be awarded this long overdue Oscar for best actor for his intense performance in this film. Overall Leonardo gives one of the most raw and real performances I've seen in a long time.

Tom Hardy : Hardy gives one of his best performances to date! Tom Hardy I have said is incredibly talented and gives good performance after good performance such as Warrior, Locke and the drop. Hardy's performance in this film was absolutely outstanding he is so entertaining and rich onscreen. When  he we onscreen the change in his voice and his psychical appearance made you forget you were watching Tom and was watching his character that's how good he was. The emotion and anger he shows in the film is so real that you believe everything he's saying he just got in the skin of the character. He gives one of the most entertaining supporting performances of the year with his ability to scene the steal with his astonishing acting. Overall Hardy gives a extraordinary performance.

Alejandro González Iñárritu : He has outdone himself once again. Alejandro amazed us with Birdman last year which earned him the Oscar including best picture. His ability to be so original and artistic is brilliant. Their are so few directors that try something different every time he's probably the most artistic director since Stanley Kubrick. He makes pours his blood sweat and tears into his films and he dose it once again with this film. He even used natural lighting for this film that's how good he is along with getting great performances from his cast while entertaining you with a gripping storyline. In this film he directs a brutal survival film and he sure makes a dam good one. He didn't hold anything back he made the film brutal, bloody it may of been a difficult shoot for the film but he makes the film so real and dose not  try to fake it which brings another layer of realism to the picture which is great. He for sure deserves award recognition for his direction on this picture. Overall he gives one of the best directed pictures of the year.

The Lighting : The lighting used for this film was so different because it was natural! They didn't shoot in s studio they used natural lighting for this film which is amazing that really brings a layer of authenticity to the picture. It made the film better by doing that and brought a great feel to the picture Overall it was amazing.

The Cinematography : The cinematographer who did the amazing camerawork on Birdman did it for this film and once Again he wows  the eyes with his great talent for the camera lens. The big scoped shots and his ability to film things like the trees or snow falling really helped express the film really well. He had this style of cinematography that is just so extraordinary he deserves to be recognized for his talent on this film for sure. Hands down the best camerawork I have seen all year pure genius.

The Score : The music for this film was astonishing it really helped drive the emotion and feel of the picture. By the way they expressed it through the music it was so beautifully composed and so well done.
