Movie Review : Room

Room
This is an all-around fantastic picture that could be a lock in, for best picture at the Oscars come January. This film is truly fantastic and I am not just saying that I really mean it. This film hits you like a punch in the heart and tugs at your heart strings. The performances given from Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay is Oscar caliber performances at its best.  Imagine if you were five years old this is what that film expresses incredibly well. It is disturbing and very emotional. It is cinematically engaging unlike any other dramatic film I have seen in a long time. This film is one of this year’s best pictures for sure.

After a mother and her son escape an enclosed space Jack has known his entire life. He experiences the biggest discovery of his life the world.

Rated R : disturbing elements, language

Brie Larson : One of the year’s best female performances! Brie delivers a tour de force performance as a young mother who tries her absolute hardest to keep her son safe and happy. She has shown to us in the past she can deliver great dramatic performances. Such as her outstanding performance in Short Term 12. So it came to no surprise she would give us another terrific performance but this went beyond expectations of what I thought she would deliver onscreen. I thought she was going to give a good performance and didn’t think she would be able to top her great performance. No I was so wrong she raised the bar and exceeded expectations she delivered a honest, raw and emotional performance she will be a big contender for the best actress category for the  Oscars for sure. In the film she is emotionally engaging and so believable onscreen. When she was upset or crying you really believed that she was showing that emotion and not just reading it off a script she was in the moment and convinced you she felt that way. So when she spoke her dialogue she meant it there was not one moment you didn’t believe she wasn’t giving her all to this performance. For Brie to show all that onscreen is truly amazing it makes for an outstanding performance and shows what she is capable of acting wise and for her emotional range overall Brie gives one of the best female performances of the year and that I have ever seen.

Jacob Tremblay : best performance I have ever seen given by such a young actor! Yes I said that I have ever seen and I will explain why. Jacob is 5 let that sink in five years old and delivering such a emotional and raw performance like Brie. Not many young actors would star in such a heavy dramatic film and for Jacob to go toe to toe with Brie giving the same kind of performance is truly amazing. I am saying now the performance he gives in this film definitely should be recognized by the Academy Awards for his performance but all we need to find out is what category he fits under Supporting or Leading. Why I believe he deserves to get award attention for this film is because he is phenomenal. When Jacob delivers his lines with tears streaming down his face you are completely in the moment with him he’s giving his all in this film and not one flawed note. Jacob will be a force to be reckoned with when he gets older with his films who knows he might even be the next Leonardo DiCaprio. Truly an amazing performance that wows the eyes.

Lenny Abrahamson Is the next visionary director that Hollywood should take note of.  His direction in this film is nothing short of extraordinary. What he did so well was adapt the book to screen so well because most often when they do that it isn’t loyal to the book look at The Golden Compass probably did hear about the film exactly because it was terrible. This film was like Fault in our stars good adaption. He got terrific performances from his cast along with putting the film at a good pace and not making it boring or progressing the plotline to fast. He got it just right so you were always entertained not one false not. Along with the camerawork he did for this film was beautiful to the eyes it was amazing. He did a excellent job directing this marvelous film. He was the right director for this film expressing the emotion well and showing the audience something so honest, raw and all around a beautiful piece of film. He definitely deserves to be recognized by the academy awards for his direction on this film. Overall great job Lenny

The Lighting : Very dark and gloomy which help set the mood of the film perfectly! It had this dark blue greyish feel to the picture which made it very dramatic and help express the emotion of the scene it was so well done. Same kind of tones used in the Hugh Jackman film Prisoners. Great to see them use those tones again it really sets the mood right in dramatic films and they have done it once again in this film.

The Cinematography : Absolutely stunning to the eyes! The camerawork used on this film was extraordinary. They would show the scene in a very cinematic and artistic way the way they used the camera was amazing. Like the angle’s they used were breathtaking and ways I haven’t seen a film shot like in a long time. Very engaging camerawork.
The Score : The composed music for this film was just right for the film it fit the picture perfectly. It would speak volumes and just overpower the scene with the beautifully done music. Loved it great job.
