Movie Review : The Martian

The Martian
This film is marvelous! This film has a great Oscar caliber performance from Matt Damon. While Ridley Scott entertains grabs the audience and entertains them with this great space adventure spectacular.

Mark Watney survives a mission gone wrong and is assumed dead. But here is the surprise he’s alive and has to learn to adapt and survive on a planet that doesn’t grow food or show any sign of life

Rated PG-13: for some strong language, injury images, and brief nudity

Matt Damon : Matt Damon delivers once again another fantastic performance! Damon has given great performances over the years but not since 2009 in the film invictus has he given anOscar caliber performance. Once again Damon has returned to the Oscar race and is stronger than ever. This performance in this film could earn him a potential nomination at the Oscars next year come Oscar season. Reason why is because he checks off everything academy voters look for in an Oscar worthy performance great dramatic role in an  isolated place and if you remember Hank that performance in Cast Away and earned himself a nomination. So now enough about the Award season let’s talk about his great performance in this film. Matt gives a great emotional performance and at times humorous. What was so good about his performance was Damon dose what other survival movies failed to do he entertained you in a serious driven film. I am not insulting the other films like Cast Away or Gravity but those two films for example were serious driven and only had one simple plot survive and had no light humour to it. Damon gives a serious performance while being funny and we don’t see that really in such a live or die situation. He does not bore you for one second he is enjoyable from start to finish. What I liked was he would push himself emotionally and just soak himself up and be in the moment of the scene giving his all then the next be making hilarious jokes which is great. Then on top of all that he slips in the skin of the character making you believe he wants to survive and live to tell the story. Not many actors can juggle all that at once but Damon did it and he madeit look effortless Overall Damon delivers another terrific performance.

Ridley Scott : His best directed picture since Thelma&Louise! Ridley Scott I think it is fair to say has made some bad films recently with the Counsellor and Exodus: Gods and Kings. But man has he redeemed himself in this film Ridley has gone back to space where fell in love with him back in the 70’s with Alien and he has once again done another great space adventure with the Martian. He captivates the audience with true science and then Matt Damon’s fantastic performance. The pace of the film does not slow down it is just right. Only Scott could direct this masterful film Scott is back and better then ever.
The Lighting : The tones used in this film fit the frame of the film perfectly. It had this gritty rough kind of feel to it. I enjoyed it helped express the scene better overall enjoyable great job guys.

The Cinematography: Nothing worth mentioning

The Soundtrack : Had great music selection for the film. It had tracks such as ‘I will survive’’. Music was great loved it worth listening to.
