Movie Review : Point Break
Point Break
"it's 100% pure adrenaline other guys snort for it, jab a vein for it all you gotta do is jump (skydiving)". This film is a absolute blast it delivers on so many levels. The chemistry onscreen with Reeves&Swayze it flowed so naturally and was s enjoyable to watch. This film is a fem it's a classic that will stand the test of time.
Johnny Utah is assigned a case to get these criminals who are bank robbers. They haven't been caught for years he then finds out their surfers
Rated R : Strong violence, language throughout and some brief nudity
Keanu Reeves : A great breakout performance! Reeves was just getting known but this film shot him into superstardom making him a action star. His performance in this film is strong and serious and I couldn't imagine anyone else playing this role. Theirs been so many roles like this kind if character over the years what makes Reeves take on it different then the others is the ability to make his character likeable and relatable. His character wasn't shallow and cold hearted he was warm hearted and had morals Reeves played it incredibly well onscreen. He can be smiling one minute then totally serious with a flick of a switch. Which is a great thing he dose is that he can show all these different layers of emotions and make them believable. The way he spoke his lines to the well action sequences he was in he was incredible in this movie. On top of all that the chemistry he shares with Patrick is one of the best onscreen chemistry I have ever seen ever.Overall a enjoyable performance by Reeves.
Patrick Swayze : One of the most surprisingly rich performances ever! By this point in his career Patrick was a well established actor with films such as Ghost and Dirty Dancing. So I don't want to say he was typecast as the handsome heartthrob but he was one of the most good looking actors out their who played more romantic roles. So when I heard he played in this intense raw action flick I had to check it out. And his performance in this film is a great departure from his other roles. He plays a criminal surfer who is insanely passionate about the art of surfing. The way Patrick plays the character Bodhi was outstanding. What showed the brilliance of Patricks acting range in this film was at one part he will be the friendliest guy in the room the next he's dark and has this look in his eye that looks like he will kill you if you say the wrong thing. Which as a critic to see that in a actor is rare for him to deliver that type of performance is nothing short of brilliance. this performance shows that Patrick can play a variety of different roles and not just one genre. Overall one of Patricks finest performances of his career
Kathryn Bigelow : Her brilliant direction in this film launched her to superstardom! Kathryn has created some of the best directed films to ever come across the screen such films as The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. And this film has her landmark all over this film capturing fantastic breathtaking action sequences to the incredible chemistry with Patrick&Reeves. She gave one of the best action films to date with skydiving, car chases shoot outs with a mix of surfing. I've not seen any other director be able to show all of these outstanding action sequences along with an intriguing plotline. It's causes she is original she shows the audience something we haven't seen before which is so refreshing to see. I couldn't see any other director do this film only Kathryn could. Overall amazing direction once again by Bigelow.
The Lighting : It was so bright and colourful and I loved every minute of it. When their surfing it feels like this yellowish crisp feel. Then in the daytime it's bright and all over which I liked it breathed life to the film. Overall great job guys.
The Cinematography : One of the best shot films I've ever seen! Their are so many great shots in this film but I'll try to just name a few. Theirs a Chase scene Reeves dose on foot after the criminals and it's unlike any other Chase scene I've ever seen. When I say they put you in the middle of the action they literally do the camera is following them closely. It felt like you were with Reeves right behind him running with him it was pure adrenaline. Then theirs the skydiving sequence which was beautifully filmed it felt like you jumped out of the plane flying with them with a parachute on your back is was brilliant. Cinematography at it's best great job guys.
The Soundtrack : The music is this film fits the frame of the film perfectly. So many great tracks in this film like Jimi Hendricks "if 6 was 9". It helped explain the mood and type of film it was it just fit I loved it gets you tapping your foot to the music.
