Movie Review : The Normal Heart

The Normal Heart
This film will break your heart seven ways to Sunday. It is one of the most brilliant and important films I have ever come across in my lifetime. This film hits you like a punch in the heart. The performances provided by Mark, Matt and Jim are truly outstanding. This film will have you thinking long after you see this film.

This film is about the AIDS epidemic in the 1980's and how Ned weeks shouted his voice so he can be heard. it only takes one person to stand up to start a revaluation

Rated R : strong nudity, pervasive language and some smoking

Mark Ruffalo : Gives a outstanding performance that deserves to be recognized! Mark has provided in the past that he can execute dramatic roles in a brilliant way. In such films as The Kids Are Alright, Foxcatcher and Begin Again. So we've seen his dramatic side of acting before but nothing to this magnitude. He raised the bar on his acting from what I saw in this film he captured my attention from when he appears onscreen from the first scene to the last. His ability to grab you with his strong emotional range is simply fantastic. He fully inhabited this character from the way he looked physically to his costume. Ruffalo's performance is nothing short then amazing definitely one of his most memorable performances to date.

Matt Bomer : One of the best supporting performances I've seen all year! Before viewing this film I haven't by this point watched much of Matt's woke in film or television. But after seeing his captivating performance in this film I will watch all of his future projects. His wiliness to loose himself in this role and get completely in character for this film is amazing. From his line delivery to the way he could switch his emotions from being happy to dead serious and making it all believable is outstanding. He had the ability to make your heart warmed with sweetness then break your heart with the pain and suffering he goes through and only a talented actor can make you feel that. Overall Matt delivers a Primetime Emmy worthy performance.

Jim Parsons : A surprisingly brilliant performance! I have seen Jim in his well known television series The Big Bang Theory. And he's the comedic genius in the show that is the reason the show is good. But I never thought I would see him in a serious dramatic film like this. I never knew he could play dramatic roles so well since I saw his performance in this film he needs to do more serious roles because he has a real talent for expressing emotions well onscreen. Whenever he was in a scene you wouldn't be able to look at anyone else onscreen because he glowed he was amazing in this film. Just like Matt he could make you smirk with a sarcastic comment in the film and the next make you have glazed eyes on the point of crying with the way he delivers the dialogue and how he gets so wrapped up in every moment. It was great to see a different side of Jim were not used to seeing it shows he has a great ability for his emotional and acting range. Overall a terrific performance.

Ryan Murphy : Ryan is a master of drama! Before seeing this film I haven't even heard of the director. After seeing this film I would definitely check out his future projects. What he did that was so outstanding was his ability to show the real raw result of AIDS and not sprinkle it with the topping of Hollywood. He showed it as it was even tho it got hard to look at at times he wanted to express what it really looked like and that brought a layer of realism which made it better for the film. Then on top of that get excellent powerhouse performances from his cast he did a great job at directing this film one of the finest direction I have seen in a long time.

The Lighting : It fit the time period of the film perfectly! It took place in the 80's and it had this bright feel to the film. It just had this texture to it that made it colourful and feel like a time period film I loved it great job guys.

The Cinematography : nothing worth mentioning

The Score : Very smooth and calming! The music wasn't really noir de throughout the picture it would fill in a scene when words wouldn't be able to express it and explain the emotion of the scene. It was beautifully composed this composer definitely deserves recognition for his great work on this film  I loved it.
