Movie Review : A Nightmare On Elm Street
A Nightmare On Elm Street
This film is a milestone that defined Horror movies! Wes Craven created one of the most iconic and memorable characters in film history with Freddie Kruger. What makes this film so great and stand the test of time is the original plot-line along with great performances tied up with some scary elements. I heard from so many people that this film is a must see cause it's a fantastic picture I turned it on keeping my expectations high from what I heard it blew me away this film in one sentence is entertaining from beginning to end.
Nancy and her friends are experiencing the same dream but when one of her friends gets killed from some unknown supernatural occurrence they try to find out what is causing so much terror in the kids hearts that their afraid to dream to sleep. To afraid to find out what awaits for them in the dreams
Rated R : graphic violence and terror throughout some sexual content and language
Heather Langenkamp : A fantastic strong performance for such a young age! Not many teenage actors can carry or deliver a strong serious performance at such a young age. It's rare to see but when it's seen onscreen it's sheer genius and that's what Heather delivered in this great performance. You got to see her descent into madness because she's so creeped out by this person in her dream she's gone of the rails. And the way she shows that onscreen was so convincing you could see Heather really invested herself into this character when she was in character she made you believe her character was suffering and under so much stress, which is great it shows she's in every moment giving her performance her all. The emotional range was outstanding she could go from smiling to being done to the bone serious and screaming which is great she can turn those emotions on and off easily and make them look convincing at the same time. She deserved way more award recognition for this performance then what she got overall a amazing performance.
Robert Englund : One of the most memorable performances and characters ever in cinema history Robert gives a pitch perfect performance! Roberts performance is only 7 minutes long throughout the entire film. Only a genius could create such a memorable character within that time span. From his cold and sinister haunting voice to the down to the bone detail in his outfit. Robert fully became this character slipping into the skin of this character and terrifying audiences with his acting range in this film. When he was onscreen he would steal the screen with his onscreen presence he deserved a Golden Globe nomination for this performance. Overall one of the most memorable and all around fantastic performances I've ever seen.
Wes Craven : He is truly a genius of horror! I have seen his work with the scream films which I thought he would never be able to top but he seemed to do it again. And then to write one of the most terrifying characters to ever come across the screen with a compelling original plot line that's truly mesmerizing. No other director would be able to accomplish this film only Wes's vision for the film could capture the pure magic of this film. He was able to get electrifying performances out of his cast but making you jump at parts keeping the hairs at the back of your neck up. It's just brilliant overall amazing direction by Wes once again.
The Lighting : It really helped explain and show the picture well onscreen. The way it was so dark and eerie at parts that you just wouldn't know if things would jump out at you. That feeling that it kept you on the edge of your seat and got you biting your nails. Not many film tones of lighting can get you to feel that way and this film did it amazingly overall great job guys.
The Cinematography : Some of the best shots I've seen in a film! In the beginning of the film to when you see the claw in the bathtub. It helped show the point of view through Nancy's eyes and show her journey and I liked how it sowed a birds eye view of that at the same time showing some mouth dropping angles. Overall loved it great job guys.
The Score : Charles Bernstein created one of the most chilling and memorable score pieces I've ever heard! The music he compose for this film really captured the sprit of Freddy delivering that shiver down your spine. It's just so eerie and dark but also beautiful because it expresses the scenes brilliantly. The music is Iconic and when you hear it you get jumpy and it strikes terror into your hearts and once you hear this music score you'll never forget it. Overall one of the most beautiful and memorable score pieces ever created in film history.
