Movie Review : Joe

Joe
A surprisingly fantastic movie! I didn't expect this film to be as good as I thought it of been. I thought it would of been a direct rip off of Mud and nothing really entertaining would be in the film. I was so wrong Nicolas Cage gives one of his strongest performances a type of performance I haven't seen in years and Tye Sheridan gives a outstanding performance. This film was definitely underrated and deserved more attention then it got.

Gary a young 15 year old boy who isn't exactly rich and is looked after  by a poor family and abusive father. Gary is a hardworking boy who takes care of his family and he gets a job to help support his family his boss he works for is Joe a man who has many morals and stands up for what's right. When Joe sees Gary's home life he steps in to be a father like figure to him.

Rated R : violence, disturbing material, language me some sexual content

Nicolas Cage : I've missed you Cage! Nicolas Cage is a fantastic actor I've always enjoyed watching his films. But over the years he has done some really terrible movies like Ghost Rider, and Left Behind. But he has also done a decent amount of enjoyable films. Such as Leaving Las Vegas, National Treasure and Kick - Ass. So it was enjoyable to see him really get into the character of Joe and give a powerhouse performance. In this film he plays a man who is in few words a stand up guy he stands up when he sees something's not right. And the way Cage played that onscreen was fantastic. He was able to fully inhabit the character and just slip in the skin of this character was great. When he was onscreen just his screen presence was magical. The emotions he shows was brilliant he could go from talking in a low calm voice to screaming and angry while making it convincing and he's always in the moment so you believe what he's saying he means it. He just poured his sweat and tears into this performance he just gave a scene stealing performance I even thought potential Oscar nomination for this terrific performance overall a powerhouse performance from Cage.

Tye Sheridan : A freaking brilliant performance from Tye! Tye was in the fantastic 2012 film Mud. I thought he stole the show with his acting and I said he wouldn't be able to top that performance. Oh my he raised the bar he should of been nominated for a Oscar for this performance it was that good. He played such a serious character and the raw emotion he shows onscreen is perfect theirs no other word to describe it. He can play the emotions of anger sadness and happiness so well like I'm am so surprised a actor his age is able to give a strong performance like this. If he plays more films like this with this kind of performance approach he will be a 5 time Oscar winner. He's truly amazing in this film him and Cage are the reason this film is so great. Overall one of the best performances by a young actor I've ever seen.

David Gorden Green : Directing at it's best! David was able to tell a compelling story with great characters well written dialogue and powerhouse performances from Cage&Tye. He got you so invested in the characters and it's Story you become so wrapped up in it you can't take your eyes off the screen. He chose the best location to film this movie it helped express the story with the setting. I haven't seen any of his work before this film after seeing this ill definitely watch his future projects overall loved his direction.

The Lighting : Great choices it helped ground the story. It felt bright most of the time it helped also tell where we were in the film and helped show what kind of film it is. Along with when the scene would be a serious scene or more lighter it really played a big part of the film.

The Cinematography : nothing worth mentioning. But still a good job guys.

The Score : Truly fantastic! It was very discreet and quiet but helped express the emotions and tone of it Very well composed I loved it.
