Movie Review : The Equalizer
The Equalizer
This film was probably Denzel's most disappointing film since Safe House. it felt like every action cliche and it feels like the storyline for the film has been done before in films like Taken and seemed like a direct rip off of Martin Scorsese's classic Taxi Driver with the exact same plot. I loved Denzel and Antoine Fuqua's collaboration on Training Day that film was outstanding that's why I wanted to see this film because I thought they could produce another amazing picture once again sadly I was wrong. This film had poorly written dialogue and didn't even have a strong villain that could intimidate you Just a disappointing film all around.
Robert a man who has a pretty quiet life makes conversation with this young girl at a nighttime dinner and when he finds out she has been pushed around and abused he decides to takes matters Into his own hands and seek justice.
Rated R : Strong bloody violence throughout, language throughout including some sexual references
Denzel Washington : Denzel delivers an ok performance In this film. The only reason this film is getting so much positive feedback on the film is to do with Denzel's performance. Denzel just brought this raw edge to the character that was great he could be sweet and smiling in one second then be completely aggressive and angry the next and to see him transition those two emotions so smoothly was great. He carried this film on it's shoulders everything in this film sucked Except for Denzel&Chole's performances Overall a good performance.
Chloe Grace Moretz : A strong supporting performance all the way through. She's been able to really show her strong acting abilities lately and it's looking goof for her. She was great in Carrie and then If I Stay which were both strong performances. So when I saw her in this she blew me away with her ability to deliver he dialogue incredibly well along with getting inside the skin of this character. She's so young to play a serious role like this and the only way she could of pulled it off is if she believed the dialogue she was saying and dressed as that character and was able to express that character which she dose effortlessly onscreen. I hope we can see more serious roles like her in this film in the future if we do she will have a Oscar in no time. Overall great performance.
Antoine Fuqua : Awful direction all around. I love his direction but I just felt watching this film that Fuqua didn't give his all 100% hard work to make this a good film. I felt like he just put in explosions and scenes that didn't even have to be in their. This film could of been one of the best films of the year if he put a little more effort into it. It sadly turned into one of the most disappointing films of the year. I love your films and directions Antonine I know you can do better I look forward to seeing your other projects in the future.
The Lighting : a It felt very cold and deal which was fantastic. The film is a very dark crime thriller and that's what I like about the lighting it set the tone perfectly so you know what kind of film it is. Overall great tones great job guys.
The Cinematography : Nothing eye popping or worth mentioning.
The Soundtrack : Not many songs stood out in this film except for Guts Over Fear a song that played at the end of the film that was pretty much it disappointed that the film didn't Incorporate more music to the film.
