Movie Review : Safe Haven

Safe Haven
This film is the best Nicholas Sparks since The Notebook! I know everyone says every Sparks film that comes out is as good as The Notebook but my reason is extremely valid. It has great strong chemistry between the two main stars. It has a very well written and laced out story that pulls on your heart strings making it one of the best romance films I have seen in a long time.

This film tells the story of Katie a girl on the run from her past in hopes of creating a bright future but her traumatic past haunts her everyday.

Rated PG - 13 :  for thematic material involving threatening behaviour, and for violence and sexuality.

Julianne Hough :  A surprisingly rich and entertaining performance! I have seen her in some films she's done in the past such as Burlesque, Rock Of Ages so when I heard she was in this film I got quiet excited. She has given good performances but she raised the bar on this one. She shows she can do serious drama and play the romance role quiet well. I think she is the reason why this the great film it is. It's because she was able to give us a very serious and entertaining performance which she made look so effortless. She plays a girl on the run from her traumatic past and in hopes to create a bright future. She played that so well onscreen.  When she sees things that trigger memories she tenses up and you can see the anxiety building up in her which is great she's in the moment. Then when she's with Josh's character she's able to be smiling happy and upbeat so we get to see two sides of her which is refreshing. What she showed us in this film she should defiantly do more films like this if she dose she'll have a Oscar in no time. The chemistry she shares with Josh seemed so organic and real when they were in a scene together the connection between them seemed so real Making for a great and entertaining couple. Overall loved her performance.

Josh  Duhamel : Gave a stale performance that shouldn't of been tasted! Josh don't get me wrong is a fantastic actor and can play a variety of different characters extremely well and was perfectly cast in this film.  The thing the wasn't good about his performance is he fails to invest himself in the character and believe the dialogue he's delivering onscreen. When I watch a film I want to believe their meaning what their saying or just becoming the character and forgetting your watching that film star. Josh tries to get it to work but doesn't deliver. Hopefully this film can reflect for him to improve his performance. Josh your a great actor just learn from the mistakes you made in this film and your golden.

David Lynos : He gave a disturbing performance! Before watching this film I haven't heard of this actor after seeing his performance in this film I will defiantly check out his future work. He plays a dark, abusive and hatful human being. The way he played the character was so hard to watch because his character dose some harsh things to Hough's character. When he's wanting to reek havoc you believe him from the way he delivered his dialogue he just delivered a convincing performance. Great chilling performance.

Lasse Hallstrom : Lasse delivers a charm that's to good to ignore! He shows us a great love story that hasn't come across in a long time. He created a great mood to the film it was romance obviously but also had a serious aspect to it. He got great performances from his cast chose eye popping stunning it just played a whole other character in the film. He had great music to fit the moments in the film. He definitely should direct future Nicolas Sparks films because he has this magic to them that makes the romance to feel real and natural. Overall loved his direction

The Lighting :  Very very well chosen! It was bright and it felt so colourful and brought the scene to life. The location that was beautifully chosen for it loved it.

The Cinematography : Some worth mentioning shots! When theirs landscape shots of the town and when they go to the beach. They just fully immerse you in this universe I loved it great job guys.

The Soundtrack : The songs in this film are very well chosen for the setting and plot line of the film. With such great songs like say anything by Tristan  Prettyman and so many more. This soundtrack is very well done I highly recommended you download this album on iTunes.
