Television News : Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary

Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary
This show is considered by many as a milestone for television.  In 1975 Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Gilda Radner and Chevy Chase the original pioneers of SNL brought a new and refreshing kind of comedy and onscreen chemistry the world wanted to see.  That trio was on the air for 10 years brining laughter and loved characters to the screen. Later on funny man Bill Murray joined this talented cast. Some of the iconic skits that were shown Such as the incredibly well known skit The Olympia Restaurant emerging from that skit is a line known around the world called Cheeseburger. To the very well-known Blues Brothers. John and Gilda were the heart and energy of the show brining entertaining characters to the small screen. They both were unpredictable when they would act onstage you wouldn’t know what they would say or do next. They stood out from the rest of the cast members which makes them as the most talented actors the show has ever had   their prestigious acting both won them an Emmy for their outstanding work on the show. In 1980 the show got such positive feedback they decided to hire another cast. Ratings were not as strong with the new cast members. So bad they didn’t know if their show would be on much longer.  Then Eddie Murphy joined the cast and single handily saved the show with his strong comedic abilities. He was only on the show for a year and in that time span created some of the most memorable characters on SNL. Buckwheat, Mr. Robinson and  his musical performance as James Brown. Then the 90’s rolled around with another cast the 90’s for SNL was their best year since they started the show in the 70’s. the cast members included Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell just to name a few. They created the most popular skit in all of SNL history. The cow-bell skit with Ferrell rocketed to one of the most well-known lines and all around hilarious. They also had Adam Sandler’s classic Christmas song “Hanukah song”. From the Spartans cheerleading skit to the what is Love? Club skit. SNL ruled the 90’s with all the hilarious and memorable moments they created. Then when 2000  rolled around stared a new cast was picked up. Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, to name a few. They created some hilarious moments but the comedy that came out in 2009 – present. The Sarah Palin skit that Tina Fey did is her most iconic role to date. I Can see Russia from my backyard is one of the most truly funniest lines that hit the funny bone. Then came Justin Timberlakes hilarious song Dickinabox with Andy Samberg. Kristen Wiig is currently the most talented actress since Gilda Radner. She has created so many different characters that just make you laugh. Such as the Target Lady, Penelope and Aunt Linda. The thing that makes her entertaining is she has no limits she goes straight for the laughs.  She uses psychical comedy as a tool to make you laugh even harder cause sometimes you don’t expect her to use it which is what makes her hilariously entertaining. SNL has made memeorable moments over the years and gets you to laugh and just enjoy yourself. This show is pure genius and is a slice of comedy gold. This is one of the best shows to ever air on television that's why it's stood the test of time because it's part of our culture.
