Movie Review : Foxcatcher

Foxcatcher
This film is a masterpiece! Bennett Miller has outdone himself he has raised the bar to a whole new level. Steve Carell& Channing Tatum gives one  of the best performances of the year. This film has a great intriguing story what more do you want in a film?

Mark Shultz a Olympic Gold winner is called by Millionaire John Du Pont to train at his estate to train for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul things start to spiral out of control and result in a tragedy.

Rated R : Some Drug use & a scene of violence

Steve Carell : Carell gives a scene stealing performance! The transformation you see Carell make onscreen was remarkable the makeup they applied to Steve was incredible. The way he spoke and looked was so disturbingly creepy which I thought was great cause you wouldn't expect Carell to choose this kind of film to do because were so used to seeing him in all those comedic films like the 40 year old virgin, The hit tv show the Office and more. So when I saw him in the trailer for this film when it was released I was surprised that Steve would do such a serious role like this. When he was onscreen the electricity he would bring to the scene was outstanding Carell just got inside this characters head mentally he slept and breathed this character he got underneath the skin of him and just became him it which makes for a phenomenal  performance which he shows perfectly. He defiantly deserves the Oscar for this powerhouse performance. The chemistry he has with Channing Tatum&Mark Ruffalo was great when they were in scenes together the chemistry seemed real and got the scene to come alive. Overall a phenomenal performance by Carell.

Channing Tatum : Channing Tatum delivers such a intense and entertaining performance! Channing shows his dramatic side in this film and it's wonderful. Because we are so used to seeing him in all those comedy's and teen kind of films like  21 jump street, Magic Mike and more so when I saw him in this film I was blown away. The way he spoke the way he expressed his emotion in the film was incredible. We got to see  layers of Tatum in this role we got to see Him be angry, frustrated& sad it was great we got to see different layers of the character and of Tatum. When he was onscreen you couldn't take your eyes off him his performance is defiantly Oscar worthy. When Channing was expressing Anger in one scene it felt more like he was tapping into his real emotions and not playing from the script which I thought was very powerful. Overall a outstanding performance.

Mark Ruffalo : Mark gave a very entertaining performance! Mark Ruffalo has shown us before that he's a great actor in films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Shutter Island so their was no surprise he was going to blow us away. When he was onscreen with Tatum the chemistry seemed so real and organic you Believed they were brothers. Mark wasn't onscreen as much as Steve or Tatum but he made the most of it when he was onscreen. He knew how to captivate the audience with his emotion. One minute he will be happy and laughing with his family the next he will be hugging Tatum and being completely serious so it was great how he could switch between those emotions easily. He got underneath the skin of the character and became him which makes for a more entertaining and convincing performance. Overall amazing performance.

Bennett Miller : Bennet Miller is a genius! Bennet Has stepped up his game in the greatest way possible. He told a intriguing story with interesting characters he got powerhouse performances out of his actors. He chose great locations for the film the cinematography the lighting everything fell into place perfectly. I wasn't surprised he was going to amaze me because I have seen his other work such as MoneyBall& Capote which were to excellent films so walking into this film I knew he was going to entertain me because he knows how to entertain a audience and leave them amazed when they leave the theatre. This is his best film to date! He definitely deserves a Oscar nomination for best director overall excellent direction.

The Lighting : The lighting for this film was quite dark which I loved! The tone of the film is very serious so you except dark lighting and also it was great at using the lighting to express the emotions of the characters and how they felt in that moment. Loved it great job guys.

The Cinematography : Their are some shots worth mentioning when you see John Du Pont's house for the first time and when Tatum is alone I loved how the camera made you feel you were standing right beside him through every moment of the film. Outstanding job great job guys.

The Score :  the score was so beautifully composed The score would express the feeling of the character and get you soaked up in every moment which I loved. It fit the film perfectly defiantly  Oscar worthy and worth downloading on iTunes.

  1. Nice review. Though it's cold, dark and as chilly as the winter air, the performances are so fantastic that it's nearly impossible to look away from the screen. Even if it is incredibly unsettling.
