Movie Review : This Is Where I Leave You
This Is Where I Leave You
This film was a fantastic drama with a great cast Jane Fonda, Tina Fey, Jason Bateman etc. the story was entertaining with some really great humor. This film is basically an upbeat and fun version of August: Osage County. I enjoyed this film from start to finish.
When a father passes away it brings four grown siblings home to their childhood house. And they have to stay with each other for a week.
Rated R : Strong language, Sexual Content&Some drug use
Jason Bateman : Jason gave such a entertaining performance. I have seen Jason in a couple films before such as The Switch, Horrible Bosses& Identify Thief. So when I saw this film I was blown away from his performance because I'm so used to seeing him being funny or being serious 24/7. the performance he gives in this role is serious, funny angry at times so you see different layers to his character and Jason portrayed that wonderfully onscreen. The chemistry he has with his co stars is amazing you actually believe their a family. Overall Another great performance from Jason.
Tina Fey : She gave a different performance then I'm used to seeing. When I saw her in this she surprised me much like Jason's performance. Out of the entire cast her character is the more serious one which Tina did a great job at bringing to the table. I'm so used to seeing her in comedic films & television shows like the hit show 30 rock, Date Night etc. So when I saw her in this film I was very impressed by her dramatic acting abilities she showed onscreen. The emotion she shows is serious at moments funny so get to see all different kinds of emotions from her which was great to see. I hope to see her in more dramas in the future because she is excellent in them. Another entertaining performance from Tina once again.
Jane Fonda : Jane once again delivers another entertaining performance. She was hilarious but also serious in this role which was great. When you saw her onscreen you could actually believe she was the mother of the kids in the film cause the chemistry she shares with the cast looked so real which made it even better and more conniving that they were a real family. She was serious at times but was hilarious for most parts. Loved her performance.
Adam Driver : He gave one of the strongest performances of the film. Before I saw this film all I have heard about Adam Driver was he he's in this years romantic comedy What If?. So when I saw saw this film I didn't expect for him to good in the film. I was so wrong he gave a fantastic performance. When he was onscreen he would lighten up the screen with his hilarious humor. But he also knew when to get serious and how to get emotional. He knew how to switch from emotional and humorous easily which is a fantastic acting skill. From what I saw Adam deliver in this film I will watch every one of his films that come out in the future. Loved his performance.
Corey Stoll : He gave a great performance at playing the straight man. I have seen Corey in a few films before I saw him in this such as Non-stop, Midnight in Paris etc. So when I saw him in this I knew he was going to give a great performance. He wasn't humorous like his costars in the film he's the serious one which he portrays wonderfully onscreen. The emotion he shows in the film was I want to be happy but I need to take care of the family so he has this protective shield up which he try's not to show his emotions because he's the serious one in the family. He gave a wonderful performance.
Shawn Levy : Shawn did a excellent job. I have seen a lot of Shawn's work in the past like The remake of the Pink panther, Real Steel, the internship etc. So when I heard he was going to be directing this picture I was excited. He executed the film perfectly he had great gorgeous locations for the film he got great performances out of his actors. Everything fell into place if you were to ask me what is the best Shawn Levy film I would say this one. Because he mixes a serious subject with humor and it came out with beautiful results. Another great film from Shawn once again.
The Lighting : It felt very upbeat at times with wonderful colors to make it have a positive vibe. Then when it got emotional it would be a little darker but I liked the lighting choices they went with in this film.
The Cinematography : Some shots were worth mentioning. When you see the house in a few shots when the sun is rising I thought they shot it at a beautiful angle. Then when theirs the ice rink scene I liked the way they used the camera and explored with it and it had a nice bug wide shit so you can see all over of what it looked like. Great job guys.
The Soundtrack : The song selection for this film was great. It felt the film perfectly defiantly worth downloading on iTunes.
