Movie Review : Ray

Ray
This film is a true masterpiece. The powerhouse performance by Jamie Foxx is one of the greatest performances I have seen. The costumes, cinematography, Set design. It all fell into place perfectly. This film is one of the best films I have ever seen.

This film tells the story of Ray Charles and his rise to fame and how he became a musical legend.

Rated PG - 13 : Drug use, sexuality and thematic elements

Jamie Foxx : Jamie gave such a scene stealing  performance as the great Ray Charles. Jamie breathed spoke and eat this role when he spoke he sounded just like Charles the mannerisms he nailed it. He even had to wear eye prosthetics that made him blind for hours when he was filming the movie that's how committed he was to this role. The emotion he shows onscreen was incredible we got to see so many layers of emotion from him in this film which was great. When he was onscreen their was a electricity that shined through Jamie when he was acting that you couldn't take your eyes of him. He gave one of the greatest performances I have ever seen. Phenomenal Performance.

Kerry Washington :  She gave such a entertaining performance. Kerry wasn't in the film that much she would show up in a few scenes but  not throughout the entire film it was mostly just Jamie. So when she's onscreen she makes the most of it with her compelling emotional abilities the way she expressed her emotions of anger, concern, happiness was brilliant. She convinced you that she really loved Ray and would go through anything to be with him. Overall I loved her performance defiantly Oscar worthy.

Regina King : She gave one of the greatest supporting performances of the year. When Regina was onscreen she made her character come alive she got underneath the skin of her character. The raw emotion she shows onscreen was fantastic. The emotion her character expressed was I'm trying so hard to be part of Ray's life. The way she delivered her dialogue all of it was great. Loved her performance defiantly Oscar worthy.

Taylor Hackford : Taylor did a excellent job at directing this brilliant masterpiece. Before I saw this film I haven't even heard of the director after watching Ray I will defiantly check out his other work. He got terrific performances out of his actors he made the film look and feel like a true time period. Some filmmakers have made bio pic films in the past of great performers and failed because they didn't do the proper research. In this film Taylor got every detail and fact down to a key. This is one of the films I can watch over and over again and still enjoy it Great job Taylor.

The Lighting : The lighting played a important character of the film. To make the film seem like it's time period it would go dark a certain parts like at a sad part in the early 60's then when it was more fast paced in the late 60's it would be more brighter so the lighting played a important part in the film. Loved it you nailed it guys.

The Cinematography : Their are some worth mentioning shots like when Ray is one the piano playing it feels like your right beside him in the studio or in the crowd watching him. I liked the way they made you feel like you were their with him. Great job guys.

The Soundtrack : Since it's a Ray Charles film so you will expect to hear some of Ray's greatest hits and they deliver with his greatest hits such as Georgia on my mind, Hit the Road Jack and more. This soundtrack is defiantly worth downloading on iTunes if your a Ray Charles fan or if you just want a great soundtrack to get you singing and dancing along to.
